Question on Temp and Air button removal

I have a 2006 997.1 that has those pesky awful Temp and Air buttons that have degraded and I got the buttons from Suncoast for $67. The local Los Altos mechanic I trust said he will fix and change those for me for 1.5-2 hours of work which is around 350-500 dollars. Is that okay?

For reference, I nether have the time nor the acumen to take the time to learn to take apart the air conditioner unit to change them.

I’m wondering what this group thinks is okay? Thank you all who respond — this community is great!

To compare - I picked up a set from Ali Express for about $7 and watched a youtube video on how to replace them. That included a cold beer while I worked on it. I'm likely all in for $12 and a relaxing 30 mins of my time.

Excellent quality TEMP & FAN buttons are avail on Amazon for $16
$350-500 is a rip off - Takes 30 minutes and not hard at all.

Easy to do. Will take about an hour but I would never pay someone to do this. It’s just a bunch of unscrewing and following directions.

I even saw how the switches were and clipped back into place. I have no idea if I would do that, but it seems to work.

I’m in San Jose and this was one of the first items on my list when I picked up my 997 2.5 years ago. I’m handy but far from a mechanic and found the job easy by following the various videos.. Happy to help you out if you want to reach out and I’m sure we can find a day/time to connect. Cheers

It's honestly easy, but I get just straight up not wanting to do something and a couple hundred bucks isn't going to kill you. 2 hours of work and $500 is crazy for that job though.

RMG in Sunnyvale has been my go to shop for over 25 years. Get another estimate, the Dans will treat you right.

Closing the loop my Rennlist friends…

So I am sorry I couldn’t do it on my own and I didn’t want to screw up my 997.1 so I shopped it to the dealer and Reitmeir Werksfat (where my family has been going since the 90s). Dealer quoted me $1700 for labor and $805 for new AC unit —$2505 — LOL. RW quoted me $375 (1.5 hour of their time) plus $62.50 for the part from Suncoast. I got it done. I thought I’d share before and after pics. Thank you friends — I appreciated all of your replies!

What the hell? Was a dog chewing on those buttons? Can even imagine how they got mangled like that.

To me it looks like the buttons had already been replaced by a previous owner - perhaps they used those early generation buttons that were offered and were 3D printed/molded.
