Default 996 - 997 Evolution

Am I the only one who thinks that Porsche seem to have got the visual evolution process wrong.

If you line a 993, 996 and 997 up any non- Porsche fan would suggest that the order of evolution would be 993, 997, 996.

The 996 looks sleaker and more modern, albeit slightly softer.

Technically the 997 appears to be a leap forward. Visually, I like it but it seems a backward step.

How on earth will Porsche facelift or revise the 997 in the future without the updated model becoming more like a 996 ?

I think Porsche was addressing comments made by many that the 996 was a bit lacking in soul.

--little distinction between it and the 986

--Smooth sides, i.e. where the hell did those fender flairs go?

--It strayed too far from the historical story line, inside, outside you name it.

--it looks nice, but not "bad ***." If I dump $80K on a car I want something that looks like it will get your daughter pregnant

No question the 997 has near-perfect lines but then again so does the Gallardo and I'm still lusting over one of those.
