After over four years of searching for a company to produce high-quality alternatives to the brake caliper rebuild scene, Ohio Performance Solutions is pleased to announce a partnership with Frenkit S.L. out of Navarra, Spain, who agreed to start a new performance product line to cater to the motorsport community.
OPS, a small group of life-long friends and motorsport enthusiasts, decided in 2015 we wanted to give back to those who maintain their own vehicles, both for road and track usage. This also provided us with the perfect excuse to meet up a couple times a year as we moved all over the country/world for work and life.
At the onset of 2019, continuing well into the COVID era, we began to see the quality control, materials composition, and packaging of “high temperature” caliper rebuild kits becoming subpar. Thus began our mission to find a manufacturer who would produce the products we and the motorsport community needed. Many manufacturers refused to meet with us as; however, in 2021, a company based out of Spain reached out with an inquiry to expand its product offerings in the US market.
Even though Frenkit is well known within the EU as an OE brake component manufacturer, distributing to over 55 countries, we discovered they were motorheads and true brake enthusiasts at heart as our discussions progressed. Their engineers were at the track on weekends, working on their own vehicles themselves. It was easy to discern they were itching to get into the performance market and willing to personally invest their time to do so. Our suggestion to manufacture high temperature silicone dust boots while making the testing procedures/data available to the public was eagerly met without challenge.
Frenkit began to research testing methodologies, both in the lab and on the track – we eagerly awaited their tests and their results.
Tests currently being performed include:
CALIPER SEALS
Compression Set: ASTM D395
DOT 4 Fluid resistance - Volume Change: ASTM D471
High pressure test on brake caliper
DUST BOOTS High temperature test: ASTM D573
Ozone and Fatigue test: ASTM D1149
Assembly on brake caliper
Media and the data are forthcoming and will be posted to our website.
We initially ordered 12 different rebuild kits to target most of our customer applications. These kits do not include the caliper temperature monitoring strips, but future kits will. We currently have a limited number of the following kits (all in mm) as these are the first in the world to be offered:
Frenkit Performance met with us this week and has agreed to allow us to keep the prices at our current level until they release these High Temperature Dust boots/Piston Seals to the rest of the world. Currently OPS is the sole importer of these products to North America. This is good news for us as we can keep the prices insanely low until then. Once the products are released to the rest of the world, we will have to raise the prices as they are unobtainable at the current level.
We have access also to the pistons which are OE quality. (more on that later) We do not have any of the “Super Kits” (Pistons and seals) in stock, however, if you all need them we can start ordering.
We have a limited number of each kit and it takes approximately two (2) weeks for us to receive them from Spain. If you have a different size let us know and I’ll ask them to produce it.
All Frenkit Performance silicon boots have a temperature range of -40°C to +300°C compared to EPDM temperature range of -40° to +160°C.
We are currently stocking the following kits: (*indicates en route to the US)
