I spent the last few days trying to decipher wires on the 2005 Carrera S. Crutchfield was no help whatsoever just FYI lol but in the end, this is the result and it’s epic!
The sound now sounds epic through Apple CarPlay, and Apple Music… I thought the Bose system was pretty subpar until I got this thing connected up
I replaced the old HU in my 997.1 with Bose and I agree, it sounds pretty dang good now. I think the person that installed the last HU removed the factory amp so I'd like to sort that out someday.
I just put that same JVC unit in my Jeep last weekend and there are some weird things going on with it that I haven't quite figured out.
1. It doesn't make a sound at all for text notifications.
2. When starting the vehicle up, it takes a minute for CarPlay to connect and when it does, it automatically goes to that source even if you're listening to the Tuner.
3. It will occasionally restart itself.
4. Sometimes it won't output any audio in Tuner or CarPlay, but Siri works.
Let me know if you've experienced any of this. I haven't fully buttoned up the dash yet so I can go hunting for some possible loose wires.

we were just playing with it for a little bit, but the only thing that I didn’t notice which is probably a wiring issue? Is that anytime any light goes on whatsoever in the car? The radio turns on briefly and then shuts off after about five seconds or so.
I’m hoping it’s a wiring issue, but it’s just odd because when I open the frunk… the radio comes on and then shuts off… I open the door and the dome light comes on? The radio comes on then shuts off… So I’ll have to figure that out but otherwise everything else seems fine with connection and such.
I did this same upgrade using a Kenwood head unit.
my requirement was wireless CarPlay which was not offered by many at the time.
it made both the 997 and the Cayenne modern, useful, and I think it’s a fantastic upgrade.
yah, the wiring is a head scratcher for sure.
i had to buy a special Porsche harness for the Cayenne to get the Bose 50 speaker and subwoofer all connected.
the 997 was easier…
way cheaper than buying a new car just for the tech.
i went as far as I could with my 84 also, using wireless, but that one still needs the phone out, mounted, and the phone is the screen. I ended up with a subwoofer under my seat in the 84, which is interesting.
I agree the wiring isn't intuitive. I went with a Sony XAV9000-ES head unit and an external amp. The resulting sound through the original BOSE speakers is awesome (to my ears) and having wireless CarPlay is essential for a DD..

It's possible the remote turn on wire of the aftermarket head unit is connected to the 12V of the indoor lighting circuit rather than the remote turn on wire for the stereo. You probably just have to use a different lead for the remote wire.

I upgraded the HU on my 997.2 to a Kenwood with wireless CarPlay. Crutchfield sent a 997.1 wiring harness adapter for my ‘09. Seems their records were wrong for when the .1 to .2 switch occurred. They then said I would have to run wires direct to the speakers, which made no sense seeing the car has 9 speakers and the HU supports 4. Suncoast actually had the correct directions and their mount was metal instead of plastic, so I bought their mounting kit from them. I also had a little help from a forum member Nate R. I connected the HU’s amp poweron to the car’s antenna amp and speaker amp and they both power up fine. I also connected the parking brake sensor wire to the wire in the console, and the illumination wire to the light wire or the cigarette lighter in the console. I also connected the adapter harness to the preamp RCA jacks on the HU, because I did not want to send an amplified output to the factory amp. It’s a non-Bose system and sounds fine to me.
