Default Dry Sump in 997?

Just picked up a "teaser" brochure on the 997 at the dealer today....In it on page 11 it states (and I quote):

"Both new engines use an integrated dry sump to ensure proper lubrication in even the longest high-speed corner".

Is it possible that Porsche finally went to a dry sump system for the 997 and 997-S?

Nope. It is the same system as the plain 996 engine's. Not even remotely a true dry sump.

I was afraid of that. I think they call the system in the current 996 a dry sump as well even though it is not a true dry sump like the GT3 or Turbo.

Oh well, wishful thinking I guess.

I still love the look of the car though

I just hope they continue to use a dry sump in the GT2/GT3/TT at least! Even the new Corvette Z06 is rumored to have a dry sump...

Why do you guys care so much for a dry sump? None of the latest 9x6 engines have had oil starvation issues unless driven at 10/10th on racing slicks. To me, a dry sump system is overkill for the average car driven by the average person.

Perhaps they are concluding that the paultry reliability issues with the 996 engine are indicitive of inadequite oil supply. I would be interested in your feeling on this matter.

in three months, i logged 2000 track miles on a 996. i know of several other 996 drivesrs who are very very fast. non of them had oil starvation prob. i have heard of only ONE actual incident of oil starvation. but that's running with racing slicks, not R compounds. so for occasional tracking, drive your heart out, you will be fine.
