Brandon at Apex has been quite helpful to me thus far. Before I purchase a new set of wheels and tires, though, I'd like to understand a bit more about fitment because I sort of live in the boondocks, and don't want to regret my wheel/tire size decision again (I bought 1" larger diameter Michelin PS A/S tires for my 19" Turbo 2 rims a few months ago but don't really like how it looks and how stretched the rear 285 looks on the stock rim).

Apex has a good fitment article on their site. BBS does, too. BBS suggests 18 x 10" or 18" x 11" width whereas the Apex article suggests 11's (though Brandon gave me info for 10.5's and is getting me info for 10's, I think). I'll go with 285's or 295 DWS06+'s and I want a flush tire/wheel fit, i.e. not a stretched tire. The BBS price doesn't really bother me but I have a hard time justifying spending 5k for wheels on a car that's only worth 60-70k - it seems a bit excessive for one part.

Does anyone know if my take-off OEM 19" Turbo 2 wheels are more or less desirable than something like new Flow formed Apex's or BBS wheels?
My comment about wanting a flush wheel/tire fit - don’t. IMO you want enough tire hangover that you don’t risk scraping the wheel at a curb.

Your concerns about NVH, hydroplaning, ice are much more related to tread design versus width, IMO.

Sorry but I think it’s sacrilegious to downsize a 911 wheel width. 😉

By "flush" I really mean that I'd like a bit of tire hanging outside the rim - so I guess not really flush but better than I have right now which are 285's stretched on 11's.

Sacrilege, yes.... but I am leaning towards the 295's on an Apex 10.5" rim. Conti's site lists them as having an 11.9" width on 10.5" wheels, so the tire would hang 0.2" outside the wheel. I was concerned about the 295's load of only 99, but when I look at the Michelin site, the Pilot Sport 4S fitment for the 911 C2S is a 295/30 x 19" which has a load index of 100, so virtually the same.

Did you mean to say the tire would hang .7” outside the wheel? That seems like a fair bit. FWIW, I had 295’s on my 19x11 lobsters and the tire shoulder seemed adequate. All that sizing was OEM btw (with Michelin PS4S tires).

IMO, if you are not tracking your car, you needn’t worry about load ratings.

He is actually correct about the .2", wheel width is measured from bead seat to bead seat. Typically a 10.5" wide wheel will measure about 11.5" overall, below is a photo from Discount Tire showing how this measurement is taken. This is why we see tires with section widths of say 11.8" but measured rim width of 10.5".

Wheel and tire update:

I bought a set of 18" diameter Apex SM-10 wheels, 8.5" front and 10.5" rear, and mounted Continental DWS06+ tires on them, 235/40 on the front and 285/35 rear. These match the stock tire height and front/rear height difference of about 1/2".

They replaced 19" Turbo 2's with Michelin Pilot Sport All-seasons, 235/45 front and 285/40 rear, that only had about a thousand miles on them. My thinking was that maybe these larger diameter Michelins with their extra 1" of height might deliver the same ride as 18" wheels.

Even though it's not an "apples to apples" comparison, my first 300 miles with the 18" Apex's and the Continentals seems to have been a quieter, more compliant, and sportier ride - so I'm happy with this decision.
