Default Fuel level sensor kaput, visit workshop message

Recently I got a dreaded "... visit workshop..." message notifying that my fuel level sensor was inoperable. The current sending unit was replaced about six years ago but since then and even with the tank completely topped off, the gauge was always off about 1-2 two tick marks short of Full. Anyway, I've decided to replace it again and bought the sensing unit and seals for my indi to install next week.

Questions: Upon replacement of the sending unit, is there some kind of calibration that needs to be performed? And if so, will it require the use of a PIWIS?
