How do we feel about a very trusted, Rennlist recommended, Ebay seller regarding steering wheel airbags? He has steering wheel with airbag for sale, both used. I don't want to find out after the airbag fails??
Anyone been in this situation?????
I recently put together a 991.2 steering wheel build and I spent the extra $600-$800 to get a brand new airbag from Suncoast.
From my research used airbags can be a dicey proposition, some are recycled/repackaged without any trace of this and resold to unsuspecting people.
For me the $600-$800 is a small price to pay to ensure the airbag will function and my head will have the best chance of getting out of a collision intact.
Good news is it’s probably not all sunk cost, if I ever sell the bag and steering wheel I can recoup some of that since I can show the chain of custody.
Not a chance in hell would I buy an airbag and electronics off some random eBay seller in China with a 90% feedback rating. Not sure how many more red flags you want.
$1,400 for a used questionable steering wheel and bag off eBay China vs $2,400 for a brand new OE wheel and bag.
$1k is a small price to pay IMO for knowing what you’re getting and ensuring that bag will ignite if it ever needs to.
Good thing is that $1k isn’t all sunk costs, as I have a feeling that resale on a bag and wheel you bought brand new is going to have higher resale than an unknown bag/wheel.
