Default 2011 997.2 Targa 4S Manual price check

Hello!

Quick question.

Have a local dealer with a
2011 997.2 Targa 4S
Manual
36K miles
All service records
No accidents

Last year prices were pretty high but I don’t have enough context to know if the market has adjusted a bit or an idea of how much these go for these days. Looking to get what I really want but without steering too far outside of market pricing.

How much is something like this going for recently?

Unpopular opinion. The 997 targa has a lot going against it. You pay a solid premium over a coupe, for a compromised coupe. Just get a coupe or a cab and save the cash IMHO.

Go to bringatrailer.com, filter on past auction result for 997 targa to see high watermark prices. If that car has been sitting more than 60 days the dealer might be amenable to negotiate. The way the market is now, my guts tell me 70-75k, maybe 80 from a dealer - but frankly, the price is what you are willing to pay for your dream car. A pretty but compromised top heavy 911.

Is this Grand Prix in Portland? They were "collecting" 997.2 Targas for awhile. They seem to price towards the very top of the market.

If you want a 997.2 Targa, a manual is pretty hard to find. They didn't make a lot of the 997.2 Targas and even less in manual. If you add "no black or white" into your search mix the number of Targas you will find will decrease even more. When I bought mine used about 5 years ago, there were literally NO manuals in the whole country and I looked for a solid 6+ months.

Don't listen to all the internet whining over compromised coupe. That almost swayed my decision to buy one. I am not a cab guy and didnt want a 911 cab, love the glass top Targa.

I don't think I've ever seen a white one, just black, red and the launch edition green. I know grand prix motors wasn't shady but I remember reading a few not so good reviews so go into it with caution if thats the place.

I bought my cab from Grand Prix Motors in 2021 as the market was starting to take off for all used cars. I did pay at the upper end of the market even though they had the car available for some period of time. I was looking for a certain set of options and at that time it was hard to find the right 997.2. I bought it sight unseen and the car was as represented. I was not happy with the clutch after delivery and they paid for half of the cost of a new one with just one phone call from me and a note from my mechanic. The warranty picked up the other half.

2 years later I am still happy with the car. A window regulator the only repair.

Alfetta!!!! Ha! What are the odds I owned two sedans as a young man.

On the topic of targas, teach to his own, thats why they make them. My issue is the hefty price premium over a coupe and the very hefty price premium over a cab. Similarly specced out, a cab may be $20k to $25k less than a targa in Canada and you don't get the proper open top experience.

I still think a Targa 4S at $100K is overpriced when Turbos are available for slightly more and GTS have sold for $80K. A coupe 4S just went for $62k.

GrandPrix seems reputable but the pricing is a bit too high.

The local one I’m looking at is sitting at $72K and it’s PDK. Don’t think a manual would go for a $28K premium.

NevilleNobody is right about the open air experience. Who opens their sunroof anyway? I think you go coupe or cab but rarity always has an appeal!

If you have small kids, the cab is amazing. Mine love a day out, open top, engine at their ears and the gundo hack burbling away behind them.

Yikers! That seems spendy, I don’t agree they are a compromised coupe or a GTS or Turbo is better. They are their own model that is all. The only thing that I don’t care for is the how the roof line ends abruptly compared to the coupes. Not a big fan of chrome on them either. I saw a guy that had the molding powder coated a satin aluminum similar to the trim finish Singer uses and man did that look slick. Get what you want don’t listen to us. Cheers
