Fuel Economy?
Am I missing something or did they really improve the gas mileage on the 911. Check out the numbers.. if they mean anything.
996 Carrera
C: 18 mpg
H: 26 mpg
997 Carrera
C: 17.5 mpg
H: 34.9 mpg
That would be really, really awesome if they managed to improve fuel economy by that much, without reducing power. But how could they do this? Different gearing? Aerodynamics? Engine Advancements?
I'm suprised no one has noticed this yet...

I actually posted something about that in one of the forums, i think it was the 993 one though...
Yeah, it blows my mind! And knowing Porsche, its most likely understated. I am also assuming the gas tank is at least 22 gallons.
I will make a safe estimate that you can go 900 miles driving relaxed on the highway in a 997. Cross-country trips should be a blast! Thats unbelievable. I know in the 944 we can do a good 700. This new 911 is looking to be quite a package. I cant wait to see what happens with a "power upgrade" package.
Oh yeah, and arent the new Porsches, especially this one like Ultra low emmissions vehicles too? Thats really unbelievable for a sports car of their caliber. Very impressive. Porsche also does a lot for their communities in Germany. What a well mannered company taking care of their people, hte community, and the earth! Lets all buy another Porsche!

How much heavier is the new car? Im betting its not a typo. Porsche has been coming up with all kinds of stuff lately, especially in the area of fuel and emissions.

Ive seen 34 posted everywhere they have talked about this car so far. If its an error, its a big one that needs to be corrected quick. I would hate to see Porsche have to land in a situation like Mazda with the Rx8 and its figures that were overstated.

I just realized that Autospies lifted that table straight from the UK Porsche site. So, those figures may very well be UK gallons. If so, 34.9 would translate to 29 mpg. Still, a pretty good figure.

The German site says the S gets 100km for 8.4l; that works out to 27.98 miles per (US) gallon; and that works out to about 33.6 miles per UK gallon (which is what the chart above states).
