Found this damaged strut bump stop on the left front strut while investigating a noise in the strut. My question is can I replace just the bump stop or do I have to replace the entire strut? BTW the right bump stop is not damaged. It appears that these are the original OEM struts and replacing the struts next spring is on my to do list. I’d rather just replace the bump stop for now if I can.
You can replace just the bump stop. The 3 nuts that hold the top of the strut are single use only. As are the bolts that hold on the caliper. But the rest is reusable.
There are videos about doing it with the strut still attached and no spring compressor
But the correct (Porsche repair manual) way is to remove the wheel carrier and strut.
If you are going to do a full repair in the spring, I think I would leave it alone. That bump stop does not affect performance or operation, it is not like a failed shock or broken spring.
I had my dealer replace those bump stops a couple years ago (not cheap), but always wondered if it was really necessary. It is supposed to prevent damage in case you hit a big pothole right?
I'd be inclined to buy a new one, cut a spiral slit in in, slide it onto the strut shaft and secure with a ziptie or two. That assumes the suspension is in good shape otherwise.

Clever... I like this. Then, buy new bumpstops again when you do the full repair.

You can remove the strut from the carrier. The bolt holding the anti-roll bar link to the carrier also tightens the pinch-joint on the carrier.
Thank you for the great feedback. My car will be stored for the winter in about 8 weeks so I think I wait and do the full repair in the spring with new struts and springs. Looking at Bilstein B16s for front and back.
