Default Front Lid release

2006 Carrara 997.1

When the car has been sitting in the sun for long the front lid will not release. I can hear the solenoid activate but the the lid never pops up. My first thought was something was expanding but I can't find anything that would expand that much. It also will happen randomly, regardless of location, but I can't associate it with any event.

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Coupla things to try. First, to open the hood, use your fob (or someone in the car)... press down on the emblem to relieve pressure on the latch, then pop the latch. If the latch works, then there may be an alignment issue. However, I think there is something else failing and maybe it is time to just replace the mechanism. I removed mine... it is not complex. I have no idea on the cost.

The problem may be at the solenoid side... not sure how to observe its operation... got to look at the parts diagram for that one. I am sure someone here can chime in.

Also, with the hood open, remove the plastic cowling to observe the operation of the latch. You can snap the latch closed, as if you closed the hood, using a screwdriver and some pressure. Now, with it latched, observe the mechanism operate. You may see some slack or something in there causing the problem.

Report back.

Peace

There was a recent thread on 6speed about this same problem - hearing solenoid activate but not open the frunk. The owner replaced the solenoid.
