Default Fire Suppression: What’s really the difference?

Hey!

After watching a video of a gorgeous car burn today, I have decided to continue the mission of purchasing a fire extinguisher and installing some cutoffs.

I have my eye on an OMP product but honestly don’t understand why there is a difference between a product for a formula car and say a 997. Hope you guys can help educate me on why there are different formulas between these two items:

CMSST

CMFST

thank you in advance for your time!

This is best asked in the Racing & DE forum. You'll get broader answers there. The first decision you need to make is whether you buy and SFI or FIA rated system (depends if you are racing, not so much for DE) and then you decide on the bottle size and where you want the nozzles to go. Keep in mind that these systems are too small to prevent cars from burning down. They are meant to give the driver extra time to get out of the car.

Thank you for the suggestions here. I wasn’t in the mindset that these are to be used with the intention of getting out of the car safely and not for putting out a full fire - that doesn’t make sense now that you say it.

The 3 - 4 nozzles are usually positioned around the driver and the top of the engine (for example) by the fuel rails. You push the button and the extinguisher discharges in one shot. That’s all you have to get out of the car. Leave it to the track workers to put the fire out with their large extinguishers. Mount a small portable Element Extinguisher for some extra security.

That is the exact video that made me pick up the search again! Gorgeous car and tiny fire extinguisher.
