Default Best auction site for a modified 997.2

Looking to auction my .2. It’s pretty much a base Carrera, but has, ~$40k in upgrades. I feel like Pcarmarket buyers might be more interested in a modified car than BAT buyers, but hoping some Rennlist members that sold modified 997s might have some inputs.

Bilstein PSS9 coilovers;
RSS rear upper control arms;
RSS front toe bump steer kit;
RSS rear tow bump steer kit;
Brembo big brake kit;
B&M short shift kit;
EVO billet shiftlink;
20” HRE 595 RS 3 piece wheels;
Michelin Pilot 4S tires;
Sharkwerks X-pipe;
FVD Brombacher sport mufflers;
EVOMSit engine software performance upgrade;
Techart side skirts;
Techart Type 1 rear spoiler;
997 GT Street front vent;
Werks1 carbon fiber front lip;
Rennline Exactfit phone mount;
Radiator protection grill screens;

tough love comment here, but consider yourself lucky if you get 10% back on those mods. You're asking 72k for a 26k mi base carrera, that's not gonna happen.

Anyone willing to spend 70k for a 997.2 is going for an S, and not one that has been modified to feel like an S.

Return the car back to stock and you'll maximize your value - probably a 55-60k car to the right person.

Right now it's a highly individualized base carrera with which you've narrowed your buying pool to something extremely small.

This. I realize not everyone keeps the stock parts when they modify or replace them, but I have always done fairly well by returning a car back to stock prior to selling. It’s honestly the only way I can justify paying the high cost of some of these upgrades. In general, I would say you get back 70-80% of the initial cost of an upgrade when you remove and sell it used. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but you get back way more than if you simply leave the upgrades on the car and sell as is. As noted above, most buyers want a stockish car anyway, so you’re never going to see the ROI on those upgrades. Better off removing, bringing the car back to stock, and then selling the upgrades off.

Just to further elucidate my point. That werks1 carbon lip costs, what, $1,800 and clips right into the stock lip’s mounting points. Seems like it would be a 20 minute job to remove and replace. Even if you don’t have the oem lip anymore, it is all of an $80 part. I’d remove the carbon lip, sell it for whatever you can get for it, and put the oem lip back on for the next buyer. I doubt you’d get $1 more if you left it on the car. Remove and replace and pocket $1,000+ for a 20 minute job. Just one example.

I follow pcarmarket, and just scored a 997.2 4S with 6500 miles on that site. To me, it seems that site caters more to a collector type buyer, and the cars offered are mostly high end stock vehicles. I’m not sure if that is the right venue for your car. The pcarmarket folks are great to work with and very knowledgeable. I suppose you can talk with them and get a feel for the market on your car.
Another consideration would be the PCA Mart. Perhaps the PCA members would appreciate a quality modded car.
Whichever way you go, someone will ****** it up for the right $$.

If you are looking to maximize price, de-mod the car as much as you can and sell it on here or on BAT. PCACarmarket is best for stock vehicles.

Appreciate the feedback. I bought the car as it sits with the exception of the FVD exhaust and Bilstein’s, so don’t have original parts unless I were to go buy them. Recognize that the car is customized which narrows the buyer pool. Was thinking it might attract people considering a .1 S. I did start conversations with Pcarmarket, but backed out after I decided to keep the car. I’ll keep it on Autotrader and keep an eye out on WTB ads. Thanks!

Pretty car. Agree with comments above; however, all you need is just one buyer who values these mods and you’ve got yourself a deal. GLWS.

I would offer an opinion of agreement with the others expressed above.

The psychology of a buyer is a curious thing when it comes to a Porsche 911. It seems to be a consistent thing that when one sets out to purchase a 911 - they want it original / stock / unmolested.

But then once they get it, it seems like there's an uncontrollable desire to personalize it with all kinds of mods.

Your car looks great - and perhaps you'll get lucky and find a buyer that wants (and will pay for) precisely what you have.

Not a stupid question. This front vent can serve 2 purposes;

-Cooling for the 3rd radiator if present
-Aerodynamic aid moving pressure towards the hood and away from the front of the car

I'll offer a dissenting opinion to the others. I would gladly purchased a tastefully modified 911. However the caveat is the the mods need to be exactly what I would buy. Not all of them but a significant portion of them. And not a portion by number, but a portion by cost. This car passes that test for me. The RSS gear and the suspension would be enough for me to give this car a look over a similar unmodified car. But I am aware I am in the minority.

Try a cars and coffee before you do an auction, get a baseline for interest, and see if that market which is more open to mods responds first.

Good stuff. I have a local party that has expressed some interest, but will explore the cars and coffee route as well. Thanks for the comments and points of view. Much appreciated.

You might want to look at carsandbids. It seems to a younger crowd and I definitely see more modified cars over there.
