Default NAV upgrading?

My 2007 C4S that is new to me seems to have the original software for the NAV system, which doesn't show any streets built after 2006 or so. Since the OEM update is pretty wild price-wise, what options are there to get our cars into current mode?

Are those on eBay fine, or are they a single-use CD that won't work on another car?

If they can be used over and over, who has one that you'd like to rent out to me?

I've always counted on my phone for navigation.

And having upgraded my PCM to run Carplay / AA I'm still using the phone although the OEM display is showing the map.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, the .1 PCM is not compatible with existing Carplay / AA upgrades so that route would require a full swap.

Aren't .1 systems DVD-based? if so, then any updated, 997-appropriate disc should work as long as genuine. OP, check your trunk for the DVD player. In other words, you'll need the disc all the time to navigate, it's not a system update per-se.

I have a .2 like Wayne so I am speculating a little....997.2's have a hard disk drive that stores the maps and routing information.

The map disk is not single use and must be kept in to operate maps.

I updated my maps to 2015 with the disks purchased from the link below ... Worked perfectly for me just make sure you are at the appropriate firmware number or you will need to also purchase the firmware update disks and install prior to updating your maps.

Be careful with the maps from climarepair. They are NOT original Porsche maps regardless of what they tell you. I tried this a few years ago and it caused all kinds of issues with my PCM.

I did some reading here prior to my purchase and most had a successful outcome so I decided to give it a go and of the few that did not most were due to not being at the proper version code as mentioned prior to the map install ... The map disk is still in my car installed last summer and still working great. 2006 and up year cars PCM's seem to accept the map updates easier and without issues when compared to some that experienced issues mainly with some of the earlier years when doing my research prior due to the earlier PCM's. I can't speak for the 997.2 cars but most with the 997.1 cars 2006 and up had little or no hiccups as I did with the update and disk.

Where is the firmware number located, and how many digits? I have no idea what to look for...or where.

Ahhhh, thanks to the link provided by rileyracing, here's the answer:

If your car was built in 2005 or 2006, read this, if it was produced on 2007 or 2008 then this does not apply to your car: The new navigation DVD(s) can only be used with software version "B" in PCM 2.1. If "A" software is present, you will need to upgrade your PCM firmware first (affects 2005 cars only). Not sure which software you have? It's easy to check. While the car is running, press "MAIN" and "TRIP" at the same time. A new screen will be displayed, with the rotorary **** select the option "PCM". The version will be displayed. The level must be "05024xxx" or higher. If it's lower, then you will also need the PCM Firmware update Kit in order to make your car compatible with the map upgrade.

I've been meaning to ask here, as I'm still new to all of this and not sure how much cross over there is between here and 7xx forum, but I'm picking up a new 2022 CGTS in the next week or two (hopefully) and have to drive about 700 miles home in it. I'm an Android guy. Car comes with factory Nav, Connect, Voice Control and Smartphone compartment. I'd love to have AA available for the drive (likely by myself), but am concerned about trying to rush a AIO update to AA on my own in a parking lot somewhere. and being a new car with 15 miles on it, not sure if the battery is 100% and/or want to have the AIO update run long and batter shutdown/brick the PCM.

Safe bet is to wait until I get home, but assuming the dealer activates everything I will have a functional onboard Nav system and would expect it should be function for the drive home? Is it dependent on Connect being activated? If so, is that typically done by the selling dealer or do I have to do that myself later? I guess I can always just pair my phone on BT, plug it in for power and glance at it as needed....ideally I'd like to be handsfree, esp during the drive from dense NE traffic (need to drive from CT to OH via PA). I'm open to suggestions.

I had the maps updated to the latest version available (2019) for PCM 3.0 via my local dealer in July. They had to update the PCM prior to installing the maps.

I will ask them to update the maps and take screen shots of firmware levels. Could pre-config a SD card, but doesn't solve power needs during update unless they will hook up for me.

Update, per the R.O. my dealer had to update the PCM to V2.24 prior to installing the 2019 maps. The unit would not accept the maps until this was completed.

Going to give this a try this weekend. Just want to make sure I've got the correct folder. Been reading through quite a bit of the posts. I think I'm confused since there have been several updates to the software since this thread first posted. Have Carplay and Bose, no navigation. Just looking to add navigation and then update the maps. If I'm understanding correctly I should only need the MHI2_US_PGO11_K5186_1_MU1476_AIO_20220723.7Z folder for the install and the P87_N60S5MIBH3-NAR_NT_3.21_2022-23.7z for the North American map updates?

I have both of those downloaded to my computer. Was able to copy the MHI2 folder to my SD card. It's a 64gb. When I try to copy the P87 folder 10.7GB, I get an error that it's too big for the SD card. I reformatted the card to FAT32 just to make sure there weren't any stray folders on there taking up space. It say 58.9GB of free space after the re-format. Reloaded the MHI2 file no problem. Tried the P87 folder and says too big again? Any thoughts?

Default New Owner Cayman 718 Base Style Edition 2024

Good afternoon everyone! New member, and proud new owner of a Cayman 718 Style Edition 2024!!! Wife also became a Porsche Owner with the 2024 Cayenne Coupe!
I've spent most of my morning reading thru the thread, and I believe I can get myself to do this. I'm now asking all of you who have the expertise, to help me out.
My Cayman came with the wired Apple CarPlay, but no Nav/ Maps enabled. I can provide build sheet, and and VIN. I want to get this done. Don't posses a laptop either but a PC upstairs (won't mind taking it downstairs to do this in the garage).
Any help and guidance in the right direction is truly appreciated.
