Default 07 C4 Fuel Gauge Issues

I purchased my 2007 C4 about 5 weeks ago, 2 owner car, 25k miles with good maintenance / records. I don't drive much so I didn't even need to get gas until about a week ago -- all seemed normal, I took it to dinner Thursday night and noticed that the gauge was reading about 1/2 a tank, which was lower than it should have been in hindsight, but I didn't really think about it at the time. On the way home I caught the "consider fuel level" warning for just a second, but it went away quickly so, again, I didn't really give it too much thought. I took it out this morning and the fuel gauge was indicating at the top of the red with the "consider fuel level" warning . I went into the store, came out, started the car and the gauge was all the way past "E" with --.-- miles to empty. Went right to the gas station where it took about 6 gallons (which sounds about right).

I did a bit of searching in the forum and found a thread of someone experiencing similar issues that had to have the fuel sending unit replaced .

Is there any testing procedure that would narrow it down? It sounds like a fairly simple project, anyone DIY it?

It happened to me too. My problem was the battery going bad, you can't tell because the car still started. It went back to normal after replacing the battery. My battery was 8 years old and is always kept up with a battery tender.
Check the date on your battery, if it is over 4-5 years, then consider replacing it. Or take it to Autozone and they can check your battery health for you at no charge.

speedracerf4i Thanks for your response. My battery is about a month old and lives on a battery tender, I changed it a couple days after I purchased the car.
