Default Anyone have an F80 M3?

Hello I know it’s a 997 forum but I still haven’t been approved by them to post and well I like my 997 ppl and their advice

I’ll be flying out to Denver in a week to hopefully inspect and buy an ‘18 M3CS to add as my daily/family car. Moving on from my 750, question for those that know more about m3’s anything to look out for? Eg telltale signs of a tune, track abuse, etc?

it’s still under warranty so I can probably sort out most things. I’ll also probably get an extended one too. I know the bumper was reaprayed recently due to rock chips so I’ll have to get a front PPF done

any advice is welcome.

thanks

Guessing you're familiar with the crank hub issue? Get that fixed and you should be set.

I had one for 3+ years, which I ended up trading for my 997. Really nice cars. Good space for a family, big trunk, goes really fast. However, like all newer BMWs very digital feeling. Giant wall of torque from the motor low in the rev range. Always felt like the car had more power than chassis, much different than previous M3s. Tough getting the power down, and rear end always felt nervous. Car was very reliable for me.

I absolutely love mine as a daily driver. It is very fast for a car with 4 doors and puts a smile on my face almost every day. Not sure where you live but I had to replace the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires as they are borderline dangerous in cold weather. Otherwise no issues. Many of the Comps are retired M School cars (especially on the East coast) but I doubt many (if any) CSs are. However this is a very helpful post/thread: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1403326

I daily an 15 F82 ///M4 DCT 47k miles. I understand that it is not a F80 ///M3.

bootmod3 done
GTS transmission flash
Dinan exhaust w/ Active Autowerke midpipe
drop in filters

I had the car dyno with only the bootmod3 and the car made 500hp/525tq. Zero issues. Crank hub is definitely a topic of concern especially if you ever go to stage 2. I have not done it and will probably not. I do not plan on going stage 2.

If you decide to buy it will make a great daily. Great breaking, great handling and great performance.

Speaking for bootmod3 only if your sports display shows I think 640hp and 580tq then it has bootmod3 installed. Another tale if your car sounds like it is making non stop popcorn then you have a tune.

If your car does not have bootmod3 installed either buy a used license from the Bimmerpost forum or buy new. It really changes the car.

Actually I just went back and read your post you will want to wait till after warranty ends. Definitely consider

PILOT SPORT 4S

for your tire choice.

Good luck if you buy.

Had one for almost a year.
Sold it after 11 months. Good amount of space for a family car.
Extremely soulless otherwise.
Very fast

I’m a little biased, but think an e92 is a better compliment to a 997 turbo. Definitely checks the sound and high revving NA feel the Porsche is lacking.

Hoping it has a little more soul than my F02 750
Will still continue to drive the 997.1 often but really need a car that can comfortably hold 3 ppl and the 750 is just too long to drive and park around the street of Manhattan.

thank you for all the advice!

some M3 are suffering steering pull issues. My friend lemoned his F80 due to this reason. I had F80 M3 Competition 6mt and it starts pulled to the right after 1 year.

I would recommend that you contact Greg Stroud via the following website:

https://www.bimmersrus.com/inventory

Greg is the owner / operator of Bimmers R Us in St. Louis. It's one of the most highly respected BMW shops in the US. Greg is a long-time BMW shop owner, BMW owner, and enthusiast. (He has a 2016 F80 M3 that's been his personal car for several years - which is available for sale now. It has the full Dinan S2 package on it...)

Greg is extremely knowledgable about all things BMW and is a great person to speak with.

I had a 2017 M3 Competition Package with manual. Perhaps the worst car I have ever owned.

The e9X are definitely better cars from a feel and fun driving expereince but depending on your family size wouldn't fit your application. I had an e93 a few years back that I dailied and I loved it very reliable and capable of a lot of power. But if you have kids it's not the right body style the F80 is probably the better route.

Curious why you didn’t like it Doug? Driving experience or reliability?
