From time to time we run across a set of wheels that's priced right, but the ET isn't the same as what we now have. I'm needing education about how important that is.
For instance, my rears are 11X18 ET51 and a wheel I'm looking at is ET45.
The fronts on my car are 8X18 ET 57 and a wheel I'm looking at is ET 50.
Can spacers be used in order to get to the OEM ET? SHOULD they be used? This is a Sunday driver, not ever going to get tracked.
The lower the offset, the more it will sit flush towards the fender. Depending on what stock wheels you have on the car, you can typically can add a 15mm spacer and still be fine.

Are you saying that it's possible that fitment will be fine if I go from a 51 to a 45, and from a 57 to a 50? The car will just have a wider stance/footprint?

Absolutely.
Most people got with a 7mm front and 15mm rear spacer on stock wheels to achieve a nice look.
It would be like taking your wheels now and adding a 7mm spacer to the front, and a 6mm spacer on the rear.
You can just take a tape measure and check on your car if this would be an issue.
You also need to consider the wheel width. The wheel width needs to be the same on both sets in order to not have to calculate anything else.

Yes - by 6mm and 7mm. It's only about 1/4" difference. I bet most people wouldn't even notice. I just did the same thing - picked up a set of 19" '17 Cayman wheels for $450 for the track. Rear offset is 13mm less. The rear wheels will stick out 1/2" more.
Offset refers to the distance relative to the centerline of the wheel. A positive offset means the rear face of the wheel (the surface that contacts the hub) is closer to the outer face of the wheel. A negative offset means the rear face of the wheel is farther away from the outer face. Based on this, you can estimate whether the wheels you are considering will fit or not. You just have to know what the current dimensions of your existing wheels are relative to what you are considering.
Turbo Look wheel, but no stampings on the inside. Are these after-market hollow wheels, or do some Porsche wheels have no markings? These are currently chromed, FWIW, but would be powder coated to new if I get them. The interest is whether a non-Porsche wheel is ok?
