C2S 6MT purchase question. (first post).
All,
I have been lurking around for a year or so but decided to sign up this morning. Thanks for having me and any comments are certainly welcomed.
I come from a world of High performance GM’s including CTS-V’s, ZL1’s and Corvettes.
I say this because I am not highly educated on the 911 997.2’s but have been learning.
I am currently in talks of purchasing a 2011 Carrera S with 20,500 miles on it. The car has a manual transmission and has 2-3 owners.
The car appears to be very clean however it has a minor claim and I have all the paperwork to support. The fender has been replaced by a Porsche supported body shop with a cost of $4500 USD. The wheels are absolutely mint with zero curb rash. The interior has zero marks also.
What would be the current value of this car? Also what values do you guys see in the future?
I will post 2 pictures of the car. I am a little hesitant because of the claim however it was a minor bump and a $4500 fix on a Porsche seems minimal to me.
I was also looking at 997.1 cars but one of my good buddy who owns GT cars advised me that the 997.2 is the car to get.
I appreciate and welcome all comments. Enjoy the day!

It looks really clean inside and out. I think a low miles C2S manual would be about 70k in the current market. I don’t have enough experience to judge how the accident will affect value. Did air bags deploy? Does it seem to drive straight?
I’m new to this but I haven’t seen that kind of steering wheel as stock on a 997.2. If it’s not stock is that any indication of the accident.
Is this a daily driver? A track car? Do you keep cars or cycle through them ? Have you googled the vin ?

I would guess around $60-65k would be a fair price if it passes a pre-purchase inspection. It would be a good idea to get the cylinder walls inspected to ensure there is no bore scoring. That's one of the few potentially very expensive issues that comes up with a 997.2 MT.

Bore scoring is not just limited to 997.2 MT

It’s not a daily driver. I would attend the track maybe once a year. I do cycle through cars but if I love this one I will keep it for sometime.
I believe that’s a factory steering wheel. The only claim is to the front fender.

Is bore scoring an issue with these cars? I come from the LS world where this is a none issue.

Check for Bore Scoring and get a DME report. Other than that it looks fantastic and a great buy. Anywhere sub $70k is a good price for it. Don't be put off if you can't get it at $64k. The damage should help, however, 997.2 manual coupes are highly sought after and the low mileage is a sweet spot for not too low, but ready to be driven and driven a lot. I bought a 2008 C4S Cab MT in 2019 and it was so great to have. That was a 997.1 but a great car.

Get a car with more miles that can get driven - the effect of a car going from 20 to 40k is much worse for value (if you care about this) than a car going from 50-70.

I think it depends on the future buyer exactly how much effect on pricing the incident/accident will have, but if you have pics of the damage and it’s been repaired well, should be a minor impact to value. In the current market $65-$70k is probably what a 20k mile manual S coupe could sell for?

.2 C2S MT + Chrono pack. maximum cred points from me!!
Seats look immaculate for their age.
Mats nice and clean.
Virtually no miles on it.
991.1 steering wheel?
One wheel centre cap slightly out of alignment, could mean many things.
Dash Chrono clock not set to 9.11 or 9.97. Hmmm
Speedo and temperature set to Metric, nice euro touch, or pic of a different car interior.
You never own a black car, they own you (or any dark colour).
Just buy it, you will never regret it.

Burning Brakes
I had an Audi A4 that had a parking lot ding repaired at a Florida "high end" body shop....I requested the bill and because of the Maserati, Lambo, Porsche shop that fixed it...the bill was 4K....the car was perfect and I drove it for 10 years....the $4500 bill was probably very minor incident....if you pass on this car, the next one with that manual and mileage will be $84K

Also can you educate me on the chrono clock and the centre cap comment. Thanks.

So I've had 4 Porsches. A '96 Carrera base and a '97 Boxster S. Both have the "infamous" intermediate shaft which can fail. On these sites people obsess over these failures which only happened to a relatively low percentage of cars. On the .2 with the 91A engine (on my previous Porsche and my current 2012 GTS IMS is not used and "bore scoring" from what I have read is rare. The bore scoring risk is more prevalent on cold climate cars which are not warmed up as per Porsche recommendation. Take the car to a reputable Indy and have them inspect it. My 2012 (same engine as the one you are looking for except for the power pack) is going on 63,000 miles with only normal maintenance items and a clutch replacement at 60K. I am the third owner (have had it for 3+ years} so I don't know previous driver habits. My Indy claims a properly driven MT car should see about 100K clutch life. Only down side is that these cars are relatively expensive to maintain properly but with TLC they are nearly bullet proof.
