Default Tailpipe / Exhaust Tip Removal and Installation

Hi all

Am looking to remove my tailpipes and send them off to get them ceramic coated.

To those that did this, did you need to replace the ball clamp after you opened this? The porsche workshop manual says you should. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/mobile/folders/1-slriKLGgkr00CbQ0vNreAX5_fdI-0Ee/1t0LZJKZwIg-ptLE5Ai55ahsh0Pl4gvyr/1Zp-ePw6UGpVjqzJs0IlRFe22ko7VA2qi/1pIkqliu-cJP7DPCM0JGqO78EI4USW_XX/1w3dYEtCgWhtmVS9afkNvvkKnkTnJnqBw?usp=sharing&sort=13&direction=a

Never heard of anyone replacing the clamp, nor do I think it is necessary. It takes a surprising amount of force and manipulation to get the tips off. I used a lubricant to help the process.

Thanks for the reply. Out of interest, why did you remove yours?

Were they easy to get back on?

Thanks. Take it no need for me to rent a ramp? It all looks pretty accessible. May get in touch with you over PM if I have any trouble?!

Easily accessible and I can’t offer any more suggestions other than work at it and use a lubricant.

The tips are easy to remove. One star bolt to loosen up and then jiggle them out. A rubber mallet to reinstall and you’re golden.

Of course if your car has seen a lot of salt there could be rust issues. In that case you may need sone penetrating oil. Spray it on and let them sit overnight. I have found a mixture of acetone and transmission fluid to work wonders. The acetone is very thin so it can penetrate tight spots and it brings enough transmission fluid to lubricant. Make sure the tips are cleaned of oil before reinstalling.
