Noticed the other day a very small spot on the garage floor under the 997.1. Wiped it up and smelled to identify. No odor but seems to be power steering fluid. My question....cost to have repaired/replaced? cost on new rebuilt rack? Do it yourself ( I have done several BMW's )?

Lot's of good used units from Cayman, Boxster and 911s from what I recall 05-12 997 units and 987 units are all the same. Job would take roughly about 2hrs at most alignment is required (1hr) .
Used : $75-250
Reman : $450 -650

Steering racks are nothing special. Most all are made by ZF for all car manufacturers. Only thing that fails is o-rings/ piston seals and end seals. Take it out and have a rebuilder in the big city near you rebuild it. Cost should be about $200. Go ahead and spend another hundred and get new inner and outer tie rod ends. You will be like new or better. If you have had racks for BMW 's rebuilt, these are just like them. No magic or high priced OEM parts required.
