Default WEDNESDAY is the day! Road Trip!!

Well, after waiting 3 weeks for Reliable Auto Transport to deliver my recently purchased 08 911 Turbo Cab from Tennessee to PA, they still had no date on pickup, so I decided to fly down on Wednesday and drive it home over 2 days. 600 mile trip, doing 4 hours or so on Wednesday from Knoxville to Roanoke, then Roanoke to PA on Thursday. Reliable gave me a refund since they had no date set up yet, which was good. Used airline miles to get a free flight, just gotta pay for gas, food, and hotel for 1 night. Weather looks great, 70s and sunny, getting tired of waiting since I own the damn car, so gonna make it a 2 day road trip by myself. Some nice time alone to ponder life and learn about the car I hopefully will own for a while. Very excited about the trip, wish me luck!

Congratulations!

I remember my first drive after purchasing my car. Boise ID to Sacramento area. By myself etc. A great trip!

Enjoy the trip AND your new car!

Enjoy! I briefly considered having my car shipped from Dallas (where I bought it) to Denver (where I live), but quickly decided against it. I'm glad I did. I flew down to Dallas on Friday afternoon, had a nice steak dinner, then woke up to pick up my car and drive home. I was a little more aggressive, and drove the entire ~800 miles/12 hours straight by myself. Even after 12 straight hours of driving with only a handful of pit stops, I was bummed that the trip came to an end. That first drive back is a great way to learn your car. It was also the first and only time I've used the cruise control.

Nice. The only reason I was having it shipped was the weather here the last few weeks was snowy, and the roads were covered in salt. That is gone now, weather is nice, and there was no pickup date on the car yet after 3 weeks, so screw it, I own it, I'm gonna drive it! I have the plate, insurance, title, registration, just no car!! Really looking forward to some alone time too for a couple days! Me, the car, food, maybe a local microbrewery for takeout....

I definitely understand wanting to have some alone time on the road. I will be leaving later this week on a road trip and I can't wait. Some of the suggestions I received from other Rennlist members:
1. Take a quart of oil with you just in case.
2. Consider taking a tire kit or have a plan (AAA or equivalent) just in case.
3. Don't forget to take pictures along the trip (posting on this thread would be a bonus).
4. Enjoy yourself!

You are probably on the road now, but if I were traveling from Knoxville to Roanoke, I'd set my Waze to "avoid highways" and try to enjoy the Smokey Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway roads!

Totally agree with this! The Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon won't be convenient, however, I highly recommend going to the NE from Knoxville to catch some random twisty roads in NE TN and SE WV.

Tazewell to Marion (VA) is outstanding, but there are a ton a great roads. Skyline Dr up through Western VA is amazing, just don't do like I did on my First Drive and get tagged at 74 in a 40.

That is exciting! When I was looking for my 911 I was hoping that it would be on the west coast - me living in Ohio. One came up in Chicago and I jumped on it. Still really enjoyed the road trip, but I really wanted a more interesting drive.

I’d add one thing to your bag, if you can get it in time. every time I go on a road trip I take a Bluetooth or WiFi OBD-II reader just in case a code pops up that i need to look at. I have a cheap app on my phone that I can look at read outs on the fly.

glad things are nice enough now to do the trip. Have a great (safe) road trip. Looking forward to hearing your trip story.

Thanks for the road ideas... I would LOVE to do the Tail of the Dragon, but my time is a little tight this week unfortunately and I am not heading out from Maryville, TN until about 4:00 at least to head back north. Definitely gonna check out some backroads though on the way up.

Looks like on Thursday I am going to try to hit Skyline Drive on the way home. I will be in the daylight then which is nice. On Wed, I will be doing a lot of night driving, so may stay off the backroads since I am new to the car and the area.

It's probably too late to get one, but a modern radar detector is a required roadtrip accessory to my mind (my Uniden R3 saved my bacon during a massive roadtrip last year, several times)

Car has a built in AL Priority Radar/Laser/Jammer that was installed a few years ago. Not that I have any idea how it works, but I will talk to the seller tomorrow when I pick up the car and he can show me all the ins and outs of the goodies...
