When installing a water pump, the manual calls for lubricating the gasket with Kluberplus Gel. The product descripription on their website denotes: "... water- miscible gels specially formulated for assembly of elastomer components.;During assembly the gels provide a temporary yet highly efficient lubricating effect which later disappears on evaporation of the water based carrier fluid. This ensures the elastomer component remains fixed in place on assembly."
I don't have any of this on hand... but given it is temporary, it tells my creative mind that it prevents pinching or deformation during installation... then dissolves away. In other words, I don't need if if I am careful.... eh? Is there another product I may have on my shelf that is the same? I have swimming pool lubricant. Same? I can't find a datasheet on the stuff.

Silicone based lubes never dissolve in water or vanish, ever.
The only thing that comes to mind is "Personal Lubricant"

I had a tube the genuine stuff when I did my big cooling system repair.. it reminded me of Vaseline, same color and texture.. used it on all my hoses, O-rings, etc.

Bruce, I used the OEM Kluberlube when I did some coolant system service on my car. It's used to lubricate the o-rings. It's just a thick silicone gel. Thicker then a personal lubricant but thinner than Vaseline. It made the hoses and o-rings so much easier to work with. I highly recommend using it. You could use a silicone based lubricant, and it would help and won't hurt any of the metal/rubber, but wouldn't be quite as good as Kluberlube.

Silicone is an electrical insulator. What about anodization of the metal due to eddie currents? What about expansion of the parts during break-in? There are engineering considerations you may not be thinking of. Use the correct lube. My 2c
