997 Price Increase Reasons Video
#2
Saw the video on my YouTube feed last night as well. I'm not sure if the presenter really captured some of the hardline details of why they may be going up in price - like relative scarcity of the 6MT and overall low volume due to the end-of-the-run for 997 as well as global recession.
Seems like traditional wisdom says, if you want a 997.2 coupe with 3 pedals, and aren't willing to pay tomorrow's price today, then you're gonna have a hard time finding one. 2x if you're looking for a pristine low mile car or something extra special (color, GTS 5 lug, etc.). They just don't seem to show up for sale at all these days. PDK cars seem to be everywhere in every flavor, but not the manual coupes.

Three Wheelin'
well said. Ended up with a black on black 997.2. Would not have been my first choice to get a black car (and have since vowed to never have another one), but a 6MT came up in my budget at a nearby dealer. PPI was clean and I had to pounce, color be damned. Never again though...

Its one of the sweet spots in 911 history. Reliability, looks, worth the money interior, performance. I'm in boca where there's a ton of porsches but I really only see the same two or three .2's. Tons of 991's, the 992's are selling well, and i do see 997.1's. Barely any .2's though. It's a smaller production run from porsche, it should be worth a few extra bucks lol. People knew like 5 years ago they'd be future classics, just not one that would actually appreciate ever so slightly. I bet our 4s manual coupe is worth about 5-10k more than what we paid a year ago depending on the buyer.

Same here. I wanted a red or yellow S .2 6MT with PSE, Sports seats, and an LSD. Spent over a year chasing that, and pounced on a cream puff black on black with comfort seats, no PSE or LSD when it hit the market for the right price.
i don’t regret it one bit, and I can sell it for 5k more than I paid any time I like... but I don’t think it’s leaving my garage in the foreseeable future. These cars are magic.

I absolutely felt this way when I was shopping for my 997.2 manual C2S over a year ago. I knew exactly what I wanted (PDLS, Manual, sport seats, sports exhaust) and ANY color but white/black/silver. I ended up with a 24K mile 2009 S in Guards red with exactly those options for 67K. I think it was a fair price (albeit a good 10K more than a comparable PDK at the time) and have been very happy with it. I don't want to let it go. Even at 70K I can't find anything else I want on the market that could replace it - new or used.

Unless you trade and collect cars quite frequently, you'll forget about the unicorn the day you bring your new 997 home. I wanted a unicorn and bought a way less spe'ced car in a different color. I don't even dream about it anymore because it drives the same and we were just happy to navigate the whole process pain free and get a fair price. I'd still be waiting for a yellow 4s manual coupe. And if I found one I'm sure I'd get out bid on it too. Some of these unicorns might not even exist and at a point you want to get on with your life. Other Porsches drive just as well as deviated stitched, carbon interior cars. You'll love what you bring home no matter what it is.

I agree!
I have had a 67 911S, a 73 914 I converted to a 2.7 rod, an 87 Turbo, and 87 Carrera Targa, multiple 356's and now my 997.1 Cab. I have loved them all and for all different reasons. They say get the newest car you can afford, for me it has always been cars over 10 years old. I think of them as a classic watch with patina. Never had the unicorn except for the 67 and at the time I had it, I did not realize how special it was. All the others, 356's were coupes, not Speedsters, or Roadsters, or Cabs, or 4 cam Carreras, I still loved them. I do my own work so clutches, engine rebuilds, IMS issues, don't scare me worrying about things down the road. Higher milelage to me means the cars were driven and appreciated and not garage queens that in my opinion take more work later on. Do the work now, or defer it until later, it is really all the same to me. I buy the best car I can afford, and drive and enjoy the hell out of it.

This guy is clueless. He clearly has no idea what he is talking about. I wish I could get those 6 minutes back...

I have a feeling he was just drinking some Haterade when he commented.
While bland and middle of the road as far as knowledge the video was pretty concise and full of the obvious reasons. Motormouth normally does an ok job.
Meanwhile the person above made a YouTube video double in length to answer if you can “daily drive” a GTS. Spoiler, the obvious answer is.... yes.
