2012 Black Edition
- Looks like PASM was an option and not one of the goodies that came standard. Is this a deal breaker?
- it doesn’t appear that these cars have any special value despite the limited run. They are priced similar to other C2 cars. Am I missing something?
- I have been primarily looking at the 997.2 C2S with PDK & Sport Chrono. Will the C2 with the same be a let down?

My 2 cents
1. I don't think so. Might be a nice option but far from a deal breaker.
2. Correct. Always been a fair number of these for sale. A late model run/push to sell off the 997's before moving to the 991. Still really nice cars but I don't think they are " special".
3. I doubt you would notice much difference between a base and an S both with SC on the street. Maybe on the track.

This one had 48,000 miles and still brought in $56,000 with buyer's premium.

I owned a '07 Base Carerra witn no options except Bose audio and park assist (tones sound before you back into something).
I enjoyed that car on Oahu's crappy roads for four years and 10K miles- no DD, just fun driving on the few enthusiast roads the island has to offer.
Impressions: The base seats are uncomfortable if driving beyond 30 minutes. I used a lumbar support to try and "fix" the lack of support for my 6'4" frame. To no avail.
Couple those seats with a non-PASM suspension and it was almost unbearable, if not dental filling jarring.
Yes, it was raw, like a cold toilet seat in an outhouse raw- not like a visceral track car feeling.
I upgraded to a '11 GTS coupe with PASM (not SPASM), actually owned both cars for almost a year.
Night and day. Selecting "firm" or "On" (illuminated) with the "Shock Icon" PASM button provided the same firm ride of my '07 Base, but the active nature of the suspension limited the stiffness to situations demanding it- not, for instance, driving straight and level over third world roads with potholes and poorly filled-in imperfections.
In the "normal" or "comfort" setting, with the "Shock Icon" button off (non-illuminated), the ride was far and away more compliant, and outperformed the Base non-PASM suspension on enthusiast type roads (linked curves and elevation changes).
Like many things in life, one seldom "misses" something one never had. Hence, you may be totally happy with a Base Carerra suspension system, since there is nothing to compare it to, save any car you owned or drove prior. But having experienced both, I would buy a PASM equipped 911 over a Base. It is optimal, with no compromise.

Without PASM, dramatically upgrading your suspension in both compliance (comfort) and stiffness (performance) is possible with a $1K plug and play TPC DSC box.
The DSC is, by far, the cheapest, easiest, and quickest means to optimize a 997 suspension (but only if equipped with PASM or SPASM), regardless of how you intend to use it- DD, canyon carving, or hard core track use.
From TPC site: All non-turbo .1 vehicles require the purchase and installation of a DSC Sport 3-axis accelerometer.

2. They're nice in that they are loaded with all the toys at a discount. Similar to the GTS builds, you get an options package for less than a la carte building. Doubt there would be much collectability over a standard car in the long run. I always think about how the "toys" either break (expensive) or just become flat out obsolete/annoying over time with these cars. Nice when new, zero utility 15+ years later.
3. In a word, no. The 3.8 is nice but your butt dyno will never notice. The base 997.2 has plenty power to enjoy and not enough to be completely irresponsible on backroads. Kind of a perfect mix if you ask me. You can row through a few gears without warp speed lunacy while still enjoying your car as intended. Plus, and let's be honest, its a 10+ year old car at this point. There are SUVs and rental car-spec sedans that can approach the same acceleration of this model these days, so you're buying because you love the brand and appreciate the whole package (handling, quirks, features, etc.) over any hard line figures.
I'm a big fan of buying a nice example of the 911 gen of your choice (they all have pros and cons) and enjoying them exactly as the engineers designed them to be. To each their own though...your mileage may vary.
My mom enjoyed hee ride to airport!!
