I have a 2007 997 C2 Cab and don’t get to drive it as much as I would like usually once a week. I want to keep the battery in good condition and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with the “Porsche pro battery maintainer” sold buy suncoast parts. Thank you for your help

 

CTEK is what you need

That's the one I got from the place I got it. Won't save a battery with dead/dying cells so if you think you'll never have a dead battery when you start the car, won't be the case. However, it will extend the life of the battery a bit and make sure when the battery does conk out, you'll be able to open the frunk to service it without going through the "jump start the frunk" procedure.

If anyone is interested...bought a Porsche CTEK from Suncoast this past May. While it has a "Lithium" setting, apparently it works only on Porsche lithium batteries and/or not on my Antigravity.

(Edit: To be clear, it works on any lead or AGM battery...for Lithium, only Porsche lithium).

Bought a CTEK lithium-only charger and it's working like a champ.

To be sure, it worked fine on the Bosch AGM I had for four months before getting the Antigravity.

Anyway, it's been very sparingly used and I'm happy to sell for a decent discount to anyone on RL...new was $189 (have receipt) and will sell for $125, just PM me if interested.

I have a battery tender Jr works perfectly for 3yrs now ..$35.00 ...all you need...

 

Deltran Battery Tender Jr with the cigarette lighter adapter and run the cord under the bottom of the door. No need to spend extra money on fancy electronics that does the same job.

 

I've used Battery Tenders but they are butt-ugly and fell a little cheap. I had three of them fail but that was after more than 10 years if my memory is correct.

Now I use Noco Genius and really really like them. I have an Optimate that came with a bike I bought and their info looks impressive. But Noco is my #1 fav. And they look really good in the garage if that matters.

And their new models have "forced" charging if the battery is drawn down so low that some chargers won't even START charging. I've had that happen more than once and it sucks.

 

This is all you need - Have been using these on both Porsche's for over 10 years....

I might point out that the Jr. doesn't have an AGM setting. If it doesn't, it will charge an AGM but it won't charge it correctly. Battery Tender makes other models that have switchable AGM or even Lithium settings.

Here's is an answer from an Amazon question on this:

Many people do not understand the subtle differentiation between the different models, and if you're planning on charging an AGM battery these differences are important. The Battery Tender (non-Plus version) and the Battery Tender Plus are different chargers which behave differently. If you have an AGM battery, you want to use the Plus version, not the regular Battery Tender. Both the regular Battery Tender and the Battery Tender Plus have an absorption charge mode, but the maximum charge voltage is different for the non-Plus vs. the Plus version. This is because the AGM battery requires a higher voltage than the Battery tenders designed for conventional wet-cell lead-acid batteries were designed to deliver. The Plus version, which came after the regular version, uses a higher voltage that is required by the AGM type of battery. The lower voltage of the non-plus version will partially charge the AGM battery and go into maintenance mode prematurely. It will not fully charge an AGM battery so it will not do as good a job. The Plus version also has a timer to hold the absorption voltage longer than the non-Plus version. These specific changes in the Plus model were made to accommodate the charging requirements of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) style lead acid batteries. Although a Battery Tender (non-Plus) will "charge" an AGM battery most of the way, it doesn't fully charge the battery as well as the Plus version. For an AGM battery you want the Plus variant, for a non-AGM battery you want the non-Plus variant

I would still consider spending another 20 bucks to get a charger with a standard and AGM setting. The Battery Tender Junior will work just fine but it cannot evaluate what kind of battery you have. You're going to keep it for 10 years I suspect, based on my experience, and even if you used a flooded battery now your next one could be an AGM.

In some respects, undercharging is as harmful as overcharging. Keeping it undercharged slightly can allow the positive grids to corrode and the plates to shed, shortening life. Also, an undercharged battery must work harder than a fully charged battery, which contributes to short life as well. An undercharged battery has a greatly reduced capacity. And AGM's prefer to be charged at a lower voltage. Low and slow.

If I charge my 12v battery to 12 volts it's nearly dead. If I charge my AGM battery to the 100% mark with the battery set to "standard" then switch it to AGM it reads it's at 75%. I understand that the 75% is not literal, but it's undercharged.

I own forklifts that we use in my business, and a replacement battery can run $15k. After being bit in the *** for doing it "ok" I decided to do it right. The charger itself was thousands of dollars. I want to squeeze every bit of life out of these batteries. It's a pain in the *** and expensive to deal with the problems.
