Default Love for the Targa

It seems to me that Targa pricing is very strong - especially for late 997.2 variants with low mileage. My last Porsche was a '03 996 Targa and while I personally loved it, I felt it was a bit of a step child among the coupe and cab and was told it wasn't as desirable when I sold it back in '07. Maybe that was a unique view for the 996 Targa. How is the 997 Targa viewed in the marketplace these days?

I really wanted to grab a 997 on my recent hunt (ended with a C2 997). Only negative for the Targa was low inventory and the only one that looked good on paper was selling at a dealer I didn’t get good vibes from.

I think they take a hit because of the lack of the targa bar which is one of the most iconic Porsche designs. I know a few people who don’t see them as a true targa But there is a hole for every peg.

On my recent Hunt I was looking for a Targa S or a Cab S, the Targas are so limited in inventory I couldn’t find the spec that I was looking for and I ended up with a Cab S that fit the bill...I still kind of keep an eye out for one, but I am very happy with my cab...

I've owned my 09 Targa 4S for 2.5 years and love it. I especially like the large glass top and the rear hatch that opens. I like the idea of having something different, especially in the Nordic Gold Metallic color. The MSRP was $134k. It's one of those Porsche's that people seem to love the color or they don't. They seem to comment more on the color than it being a Targa. I think with that MSRP and only 27k miles miles on it I won't have a problem selling it when and if I ever do. I also realize it's only worth someone is willing to pay for it. I purchased it from my neighbor who retired and was moving to Florida. He was planning on taking it with him but after I approached him he was nice enough to sell it to me. I guess I was in the right place at the right time.

Targas are rare due to low production numbers, and given the rarity, the value is worth more than other models with the exception of the GTS if it’s a 997.2.
You can see the production difference between the 4 and 4S models below (Source). No Targas in 2005.

I really like the Targa but had to rule it out due it not having the roof bar mount points to hook up racks. I use my bars quite a bit for bikes and climbing gear so it was a dealbreaker for me, unfortunately.

Cool car. Limited production numbers keeps the value up. For me, I like it, but not as much as the 991 Targa due to it missing the Targa roll bar.

So just when I thought I knew quite a bit about the different 997 variants, I’ve never heard of the 2010.2 R. Anyone care to enlighten me on that one?

Check out this CPO Targa for Sale.

Great options. Only 76 built in 2012. Out of those 76 how many MT? 15? This may be a unicorn.

If I were looking for another car I'd be trying to negotiate. A lot.
