Default Radiator debris

As I mentioned in my other post- just picked up my new to me - ‘09 CS2 a couple days ago and drove from LA to San Francisco yesterday. After about 3 hours I stopped for gas and remembered watching a YouTube video on 997’s and the guy saying that it’s important to inspect the radiators periodically for debris. So I took a look- here’s what I saw:

Drivers side

Passenger side - surprised to see a Red Bull can!

I have the zunsport grill inserts. They are high quality and best of all can be installed with out removing the bumper cover.

MasterBlaster for the win. Once when dry, and again after your car wash routine.

I also have these. They're not only the best looking option I've seen but they will certainly keep what you saw in your car from happening.

You have to drill a hole into the bumper on each side though right?

Yes but it’s two very small holes in the lower corners.

No drilling on the .2 cars. A 2 minute install. But my understanding is the .1 installation is different.

Congrats on your new ride. That's common on the radiators. The great news is that it looks like the fins are pretty straight. Many cars require hours of combing to straighten them. Post pics when you have a chance ... If you haven't already.

Edit: Just saw your other post. Well done!!!

You will want to remove the bumper to clean them out properly. It is a pretty straight forward job. You will have stuff trapped in front of the radiator and in front of the condenser too that can only be easily accessed with the bumper off.

This is why you pull off the bumper.

+1 of installing grills. Such a cheap form insurance against major damage and also keeps cooling efficiency higher.

I have never drilled a hole. I just screw the tiny screws into the plastic. Work great.

I’m sure that would work fine

If you install the screens, then none of the debris gets in there. So, remove the bumper, clean out the areas depicted above, install screens, and never remove the bumper again. I have the Zunsport screens, I have never had to remove them (in 10K miles) to clean behind. If I spot anyhting in there, they pop right out and in in less than 5 minutes. Best design out there, IMO.

Some prefer the looks of the rear mount- but I think the flush mount shares styling with some good company:
