Lets talk about vacuum
Hello guys,
I read and search a few (lot) threads here and there about the vacuum on our 997 and more precisely on how to tap on it to add a vacuum line to the exhaust valve.
So mine is a base carrera 997.2 and as some of you know, the base carrera does not have any vacuum at the airbox (unless factory equipped with PSE I think).
So what I gather here and there :
- 997S have a vacuum to tap on at the airbox on the "resonator stuff" solenoid
- vacuum pump is at the rear right of the engine but can't tap there
- It is not recommended to tap on the brakes vacuum line (for obvious reasons)
- Akrapovic in the installation manual recommand for base carrera to tap on the PDK vacuum just left (if I remember) of the gearbox near engine. But with all the fuzz around PDK and its price I would prefer not to mess even with just the vacuum.
- It might be possible to just buy a small 12v vacuum pump but I am afraid of reliability, vacuum power (enough to move 2 valves properly) and possible irritating noise.
I could also go for electric valves as it exist but with the hostile environment (vibrations, extreme heat, temp changes, water exposition) I am not sure it is a right choise for durability.
So here is my question, are there other options out there for us poor base carrera owners and what do you do or recommand in that context ?

Thanks guys for the heads up 👍
I will have a look at the top of the engine to check if the hose can be found on .2 at the same spot than .1
For the airbox it was my first thought to just drill a hole, plug a hose and just be done with it but I was told that vacuum in airbox was certainly too weak... Does anyone tried it?
