Default Yaw sensor kill switch Sport mode malfuntion

Hey guys, I recently installed a kill switch for my yaw sensor in order to disable traction and stability control. I attached a switch to the ground wire in order to disable it. When the yaw sensor is disabled I'm getting an error saying sport mode malfunction. When I called my local race shop they say they don't have issues with sport mode. Anybody having this issue or know a way to solve it?

Since the yaw sensor is an integral part of the stability control system, it's not surprising there are diagnostics to detect issues in that circuit.

Are you saying...

1) This shop doesn't find sport mode an issue in general

-or-

2) This shop has installed the same switch in a 997.2 Carrera, and they don't see this error?

they did not specify if they had this issue on a 997.2 but said they don’t have this issue on their other cars. I know if several 987.2s they did it on however I’ve seen the same error on those cars as well.

I have heard the same for the cayman when yaw sensor is disconnected sports mode wouldn't work, so I think it's not entirely surprising.
I'm tempted to do this on my 997.2 as well. Did you follow the cayman's switch installation DIY? Is the location of the sensor and wiring similar to the cayman?
How do you like it when it's fully off?

Yes it was the same as the cayman. I no longer have the car but the next mod would be an lsd. It just didn’t act how I’d like with the open diff

The PASM module uses accelerometer inputs to manage damper settings. So without those inputs (or at least one of the axes in this case) it's not going to work. Hence, it makes sense you would get this error.

thanks for your reply.
i was thinking about getting lsd (mine is pdk and there are very limited option of lsd for 997.2 pdk car), but then think maybe I should try this mod first... but I guess from your experience I might as well just do both...

You cannot disable stability management on a PDK car as the PDK needs that information. Get the LSD instead (Wavetrac, Giken) with the appropriate diff cooler.

@Frank 993 C4S wait... so what would happen if I pull the yaw sensor of my PDK car?
i probably want to get a LSD regardless. just a shame that Giken and Guard don't have one for 997 PDK c2s (I checked with them). so choices really are just Wavetrac, or a shop called Deman in New Jersey they can custom make one...

Deman is great shop. I'd go with them over wavetrac which isnt a true lsd rather a torque biasing diff

Hey All,

We have the BEST LSD for 997.2, 987.2. 981, 991 PDK cars that came from the factory WITHOUT LSD.

These are better than anything on the market and super robust, 6 different ramp angle combination adjustable.

@Rick DeMan Is there some form of warranty that comes with the LSD? What are the roughly expected road/track miles the LSD will last before needing a rebuild? Thanks.

Life is dependent on use, these are the most robust units ever made for this application. They are warrantied against defects for 1 year.

Hi @Rick DeMan the car is mostly street-driven (roughly 5000 miles/year), see about 10 track weekends a year... I know it depends on how hard you drive etc, what would be a rough ballpark of life expectancy? (thanks for the info on the warranty!)
