Default Brake Calipers

2011 C2S with about 20k miles. Purchased in 3/20 as CPO. Service records indicate no brake replacement. Pads and rotors are in good shape but considering replacing. Some folks recommend replacing calipers because of age but not sure this is needed on a car that has been babied like this one appears to have been. Thoughts on replacing calipers appreciated. Thanks.

2009 C2S 161K miles

I see no need, nor have I heard of any reason to. I am on my original calipers/pistons/etc. I have changed pads and rotors.

Peace

Mine is an early 2005 car with 102k miles - car still has the original calipers.
I too see no need to replace the calipers unless there's damage to the piston sleeves or boot etc
Even then, it would be a better (and cheaper) task to rebuild the caliper instead of replacing them (replace piston seals, boots etc)

Some folks recommend changing calipers? Who would those fine folks be?

I could see doing a caliper rebuild to replace worn seals & pistons if necessary and replacing the caliper bolts when you do the brake job - but not the calipers themselves. I've never heard anyone recommend replacing the calipers themselves as a wear item.

I thought this was insane until I met an older gentleman at Mid Ohio in a 997.2 gt3 that explained to me he just had his front calipers replaced as recommended by his dealer because the dust boots were melted from the track time. It wasn’t his fault for trusting them. I cried.

I am betting there is a stealership mechanic that scored a full set of calipers and made some coin on reselling those....

If there’s no history of maintenance, do a brake system flush. If everything is working, why replace...

gonna go on a limb and say whoever made that recommendation is either an idiot, or a genius at a dealership who is scoring brake kits for pennies on the dollar

There is no reason to replace calipers. Have never heard of that. A rebuild after many miles or hard use, yes.

I’ve only seen one time where the calipers had to be replaced due to an accident. Complete fleecing.
