Been using a deWalt with 6” backing for the past year. Bought it to start detailing boats on the side for fun again and works great. I like the speed control of it as it’s very smooth to accelerate compared to others. Trying to do a couple of more boats and cars this fall to get the G9 from Griots.

I find the biggest difference is in the pads. I have been switching between Chemical Guys and Griots and both seem to work well. The Chemical Guys white and red, and the Griots Orange and red seem to be the best combination for me. Note I am have been using a lot of the Chemical Guys stuff as there is always a 20% coupon for it which makes it a better price. Here are my cars, nothing fancy but I think they look great. The Tacoma is an 2010, the WRX (my airport car) is a 2002. The 997 I haven’t had in good sun to photo yet.

As promised. Here are some photos of the finished car, mind the dust in some spots. I used my rupes lhr15 and the griots g8 3” with lake country hdo pads and carpro clear cut and carpro reflect. Coated with carpro uk 3.0. It’s not perfect as there were deeper scratches that I minimized but knowing how much clearcoat to sacrifice is important. I should be good with maintained every washes for 2 years.

I started with the Porter Cable, but upgraded to the Flex XC3401. Night and day difference in terms of speed and comfort. I was doing detailing for fun on the side, and the Flex was much more efficient. In my case, time was money. Having said that, the Porsche has less surface area than a typical car, so the speed factor may not be that great. I still have the PC...since it's pretty small, I still use it for hard to reach areas.

I have had my Porter Cable for about 5 yrs. I works great. And yes, watch the Junkman on youtube. He gets wordy, but if you follow him you will get great results.

I've been using Griots, both the larger dia and the smaller one for tighter spaces, for years. Based on the above, I'm not sure that the orbital is the most important part of the equation. Pads, product and technique play a much greater role. Don't think you can go wrong with anything mentioned in this thread.
