Awoke this morning to a knock at the door, it seems I was one of the first stops for the local UPS guy. Ordered some goodies the other day from suncoastparts, a new ignition surround and a rennline phone mount.

The ignition surround was quite easy to install, glad to walk away without marking the leather. And the phone mount was very straight forward. I expected the bracket to be affixed with bolts, to my surprise it was double-sided tape but feels sturdy enough. Please ignore the all-weather floor mats, it’s been very rainy lately.

 

New ignition surround looks great. I need to do the same on mine. Have considered going leather as I know it won't wear, but it is expensive and will get scratched. I should probably see if FCP sells the part, it would have a lifetime warranty on it then.

 

Looks good. Is it a better finish or will the same thing happen over time?

 

I opted to purchase the exact same part as the original, thus the soft touch paint will be a problem down the road.

This piece is $20, there is a Porsche exclusive that is leather wrapped for $120. The surround has been like this since I took ownership years ago, I’m very gentle on my cars and won’t go through 6 of these in the car’s lifetime.
