Default 997.2 PCM VERSION Question

Hi, everyone.

Quick question...what is the latest PCM version number I could have in my PCM (2011 C2S)?

Just had my vehicle (finally!) delivered middle of last week...when I looked at the PCM version number, it was V2.20, yet I keep hearing about V3 for 997.2s.

Is there a V3? What's the latest version my unit should have so that I can ensure the dealer did, indeed, keep his promise?

Thanks to all.

Bob

Your PCM is the PCM 3. The latest software is version 2.24

Huge thanks, Targa.

Will see about getting this updated...was supposed to be by the dealer (CPO).

Thx!

Let us know how it goes.... We've read here these updates can sometime brick the system..... please ask the dealer if there is any truth to this.

Peace

Will do, @Bruce In Philly. I am worried about the "upgrade" though I'm under the impression there are major problems with the latest SiriusXM update, and my vehicle does not have that module, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I just got the car delivered last week as a CPO from a dealer some ways away and, I have to admit, I am not terribly impressed with the experience/service I've received.

Because of the distance, and the fact that the unit was not updated per CPO requirements, they'll probably send me the discs and I'll have to go another dealer for installation. Regardless, will advise how it goes.

Thx!

Hey VT Blue, I have the same scenario. I have a 2012 997.2 PCM 3.0 V2.20. I do have the Sat Radio capability but have not activated it.

Did you get any answers on the update process or risks?

Thanks!

Hi, @atwice.

Thanks for the nudge on this one as I had failed to update.

The dealer responded that it had admittedly not been updated and that I should take it to my nearest Porsche dealer for the update and they would reimburse them, which I have yet to do.

Why? Just go to post #61 here and it will become clear -- there are bigger fish to fry in this instance.

Having said that, I am a Sirius/XM-holic -- have been for ages -- and hooked up a Bovee to stream from my iPhone 11 and it works GREAT! Based on other threads/posts I've read on RL, I would not suggest getting a separate Satellite radio module -- too many issues/potential issues. Get a Bovee: They're cheap 'n cheerful and really do work.

Amazon Amazon

I hope that helps.

Thx!

Bob

Thanks VT.

Totally get it. I too now have bigger fish, as I got a "warning: battery/generator" alert and the serp belt popped off. Might be due to the alternator. Its under CPO so hopefully they'll get it fixed soon with minimal implications. Disappointing after just 2 weeks, but I guess thats why we have warranties.

I did get a Y-cable and Bovee after reading other posts (including some of yours) and it was working on the small test I completed. I'm also trying out SAT radio but if the Bovee holds out I'll go with that. I have to experiment if it stays powered on when the car is off, bc my phone remained connected for some time. Don't want it draining power. I'm sure it gets cut off after a certain interval or upon locking.

While my car is at the dealer I'll ask about the v2.24 update as well and see what their response is. Honestly, if Bovee and SAT is working, it might not be worth messing with the PCM. I'll update the thread if I hear anything noteworthy.

Thanks!

Update: I got the car back a few days ago, fortunately they only had to replace a drive belt and no extending damage. The tensioning bolt seized and tore through the belt.

Re. the PCM: The dealer's system showed that I had the 'latest version' even though my system reports v2.20. They did mention that the maps are outdated. Either way, doesn't seem like he wasn't able to find v2.24.

He also agreed that it probably wasn't worth messing with, as long as its working now. PCMs are fickle.

Based on what I've read, I wonder if the v2.24 is included with the maps update. I'm guessing it isn't something that's paid enough attention as its rare for people to opt in for the map update anymore.

The Bovee works, but there definitely is a 'launch sequence' that I have to figure out to make sure it works right after turning the car on. Sometimes the "iPod" option doesn't get picked up by PCM, requiring a unplug/replug of 8-pin connector.

Thanks @atwice for the update.

Since getting the Bovee, and not making it to a dealer yet, I have done nothing to try to update, be it maps or otherwise. To your point, I may leave well enough alone.

When/if I get to a dealer I will update.

Thx!

Never heard of any update being worth it. PCM or maps.
