Default 997 track day thread

Would anyone be interested in keeping a thread going for trackday guys? I'd love to meet some of y'all at the track. Since it's something I'm going to be doing anyway. I'd be happy to add days as well if it means meeting some folks, which is honesty the most fun aspect for me. It's really the whole reason I stay in the hobby. Banging bars on the bikes and chasing people down in the car. It's more fun coming back to the pits and talking smack. 😂

My first scheduled day since COVID is

ApexFest 9 Track Event Weekend at NCCAR
Apex Track Events
When: Jun 27, 2020 - Jun 28, 2020
Where: NCCAR , Garysburg, NC

Awesome track, my home track so I run it frequently in both the car and bike.

Any interest?

Fun idea! Any recommendations for the best way to remove track rubber marks?

I think it's a good idea. Could also use the thread to post some pics/vids of the track days, and also discuss track setups and track mods. Not very much track-talk in the 997 forum it seems (though the expertise is certainly here), so this would be a good thread.

I just placed an order for a bunch of suspension components and some sport cup 2 tires. I will install them as time permits over the next month or two. I'll be doing rear adjustable bump-steer toe links, GT3 front LCAs, monoball top strut mounts, new strut bearings all around, Ohlins road and track coilovers, and GT3 sway bars front and rear with adjustable drop-links. Already have Pagid Black brake pads installed with Motul 660 fluid.

I've never been to NCCAR. Looks like a nice track, but 1,000 mile round-trip drive for me. With past cars I've mostly raced at Road Atlanta, and Roebling Road. I'd like to check out Barber Motorsports Park as well sometime.

What specs are you shooting for that you couldn't achieve with the stock components?

Roebling, I ran it for the first time early March on the bike. Race weekend. What a NARROW track that is. Where do you pass?

And 1000 miles round trip is steep. But NCCAR runs fairly cheap and the local marriot is discounted. Usually I can get it for 90-100 bucks a night with the track discount. Usually try to find someone to split it when I doing bike days, at least.

Shooting for -2.5 camber front and -2.25 camber rear. GT3 LCAs for the front help achieve that camber and the top monoball strut mounts help with camber too but I more got those to take out the compliant rubber bushing from the OEM strut mount. The rear camber should be achievable from just lowering + adjustment of the factory components but then you run out of toe-adjustment on the toe-links so that is what the aftermarket ones are for - plus the aftermarket ones have shims that allow you to correct rear bump-steer these cars develop once lowered (front isn't as much of an issue believe it or not), and also those toe links swap out the factory rubber bushing for a solid rod-end which helps prevent toe changes under cornering loads. The sway bars are to set the handling characteristics of the car. So bottom line, the components I bought weren't just for alignment specs, but a number of factors.

Roebling is a blast and a super safe track - you can push hard and not worry about going off-track and hitting anything. Most track day events allow passing between turns 2-3, 5-6, and on the straight.

As for NCCAR, I would love to visit a lot of tracks up that way, like VIR, etc. If I do, I'd rent a trailer and tow the car out there for the weekend. That's probably a year-out though, so we will see.

Unless you're looking for something 997, there is a DE and Racing forum.
There are plenty of 997 folks on that forum.

Count me in, once they life the ban for CA. I'm in Southern California so it's California Speedway, Chuckwalla, Buttonwillow and Willow Springs for me.

great weekend at NCCAR. Car ran extremely well. This group/club isn't all that advanced or fast, so I was able to run circles around most. There were a few dedicated track cars that I had to work to get past, but feel the PS4S is a great tire in regards to grip.... but what isn't great is how they held up. They really took a beating. Like, really a beating. Don't know that Ill run them again. Which is frustrating. As I don't yet own a trailer for the car, and would prefer to be able to drive to and from....

Also, the rebound on the stock shocks isn't ideal for the track, really had some build up in the front of the sipes. They pretty disappointing as well. Hopefully some road mileage will even things out a bit. Also may be able to dial it out with the DSC?
