It's ok. Not like he could fix it w/o actually operating it. I'm just glad the mechanic I found sounded pretty confident so I could go to him eventually if it acts up again.

The convertible top has been working very normally recently even during relatively hot days like high 80's. It seems that it started working after I hard wired the radar detector.. I know it doesn't make any sense but it really did. I noticed a couple of blown fuses when I did that but those were for 12v jacks. Weird.. Or maybe it's just the cooler weather.
