997 Tensioner Pulley got shredded after putting on belt.
All- I had to replace my battery cable to get around the issue with the hot start after a quick trip. Did everything and buttoned it up nicely.
Car started up and seemed to work fine but after a quick check out drive I got a battery warning light. I went back home and I opened up the back and immediately noticed the belt was out of place.
I took out the air box and noticed that the tensioner pulley must have somehow blown it's bearing as it shredded the internal plastic and I had bits all over the car and in the belt. All I did was move that tensioner with a longer 24MM socket that was a PITA to work with (too big and bumped into the back of the car as it loosened). I recall the tensioner did a minimal amount of spinning and wasn't free spinning.
I had bits of plastic shaving throughout the drive belt and i'm going to be cleaning it all and have a new belt with the new pulley on order.
Just curious if this has happened to anyone before? The tensioner seems to work fine so I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out how it happened.
(I also have to replace my oil filler neck - so fun!)
Thanks

Thanks - did you do the tensioner yourself? Looking like it is a repeat of the process for the replacement of battery cable with moving the alternator and ac and the other items to get access.
