People do this all the time, some just do it to "test" how they might light the color before the real paint

Just checked my build sheet (2008 TT) and it was a $2070 option —> PCM Package Painted Ext Color

"Wouldn’t it look better by spraying the paint instead of hand paint with brushes? The brushes will leave marks, no?"

Yes, but not sure I want to try the take apart option versus painting as installed.

ANy wraps would require removal and then the work to separate the face from the billion buttons. Not worth it to me.

So you’re gonna hand paint with the buttons in place and not remove the face plates? This’ll be interesting! Please post pics when you’re done!

I'll start with radio, I have fusion krylon paint and small artist brushes. I probably will replace factory radio so less risk if i screw up.

Well that didn't go well...

I prepped, took my time, used Krylon Fusion Paint with an artist brush, three coats.

Wow, kinda what I thought would happen, but hey, at least were brave enough to try. Maybe take the faceplate off, sand it a bit and spray it black?

At least you tried! Thanks for posting your experience and I too appreciate your bravery to illustrate your self proclaimed failure.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again...

My thoughts are either take all pieces out and have them professionally done (paint or leather wrap); do the carbon fiber onlay or just replace the radio. My only hesitation on replacing radio is that I already have a decedent set-up (ipod access through nav-tv, sirius radio and bluetooth audio via a$20 dongle that surprisingly works well for podcasts). I also was a bit disappointed in the aftermarket upgrade to my wife's 2010 Cayenne (wish I had known about the fader and volume issue before install).
