Default Fabspeed CAI clone

Does anyone have this kit? Can you recommend this over the Fabspeed version? At this price point, seems hard to resist.

Thoughts?

I have the F1 speed version. I can not imagine how any of these are different in a significant way. I would totally grab that F6I one if I was in the market, sams like a no brainier to me.

My main concern was whether it was a crappy version that fails or causes issues. $90 compared to $250 is an easy decision if it is legit.

What are your thoughts on these types of kits as a whole?

My car had it on it from the PO so I can’t compare. With that said this is an easy mod that causes no harm. It is supposed to add some noise which is always good IMHO. if it was not on my car I would put it on and the F6I version is what I would go with.

As far as a CAI this is not one. It is a less restrictive snotkus and a cap. Fabspeed does make one of the few CAI that are worthwhile. It still suffers from a lack of proper plumbing from the rear deck as well as taking in more compartment air then I would want. The only other addition I would do to the intake is a better/less restrictive filter. Thee are lots of info on this board about how efficient the OE air box is.

Thanks for checking out our site! We have great faith in Jon at Flat 6 Motorsports - in both their products and service. The price is very fair for the components which was the mission behind offering these.

A decade ago I was selling Subaru turbo inlet hoses made of silicone, and some of the initial offerings were too thin and - while the scope of the issue is speculative - there have been reports of them collapsing. The next generations were made thicker with wire wound inside to prevent this. That said, I'm still a bit weary of any silicone tube. I've inspected the Flat 6 silicone tube and I'm confident it is thick enough to not collapse. There wasn't any excessive leftover material sticking out as well, a real nice piece. It's with confidence that I listed this product on our site and we like to personally vet the components that we offer.

Just make your own for $10 from Home Depot's plumbing section.

Do the Home Depot version or the ebay version. No difference in these things. Didn't notice any change in tone with mine tho....

The Flat 6 kit is much higher quality than what else is on the market. Sure you can go cheaper but the F6 one is a quality kit and well designed. The machined cap alone is a good enough reason, sure you can use an old oil cap but I prefer Porsche-level quality.

With all due respect, their silicone hose is just, a silicone hose. The cap may be a decent quality, but the silicone cap in the ebay kit is perfectly acceptable as well. Silicone is not new technology, nor as hose clamps. There is no reason to over spend on this particular mod.

To each their own. I'm not saying there aren't other ways to get there, I just don't think it's overpriced for a quality kit on a car like this. I'm sure the silicone tube is the same type of ply and all but I like the more cohesive look versus a less finished/thought-out look. I added a BMC filter, it sounds great for around $200 all in. Not bad for Porsche parts in my opinion. It might be the cheapest mod I've done.

They claim this adds power. Does it really? I thought it was only for extra intake sound.

All true, but I assure you that when I look at the engine bay of a car that has components in it jury-rigged from Home Depot, I sure wonder what else is going on under the skin of the car. For a high end, premium sports car, I would not be putting a box store fix in any visible place to save a few bucks.

I'm not sure about power, it certainly sounds better and feels a bit more alive with the throttle. Maybe ~5-8HP via the butt dyno, especially 5K+ RPM range. My expectation for power was more of a little bump so I'm happy, certainly not like tuning a turbo car or anything. This with the x-pipe and mufflers has really "woken up" the car overall. I haven't put it on the dyno but I can feel a difference. I just wanted to add some character and improve the driving experience, not chasing a number or 1/4 mi time, so for me, I'm very satisfied.
