Default Rear Decklid Removal?

I have a ducktail spoiler ready for paint but I would like to test fit it on my car before doing so. I have looked online but there does not seem to be any DIY guides for the 997 decklid. Am I using the correct term and/or is someone able to assist me? Thanks,

For my 997.1S all I had to do to test fit mine was remove the two screws on both hinders & unplug the wire on the right side of the car. Pro tip!!! If you bought a Getty Design follow the directions that were sent or call Mark so he can coach you to get to align up properly.

Looks great and thanks for the tip. The tail I bought, Misha, only replaces the raising decklid. I saw that there is a video for a 996 - wonder if they are the same.

Thank you WC - exactly what I was looking for. Vent grills were not in my box. I will have to email them.

E: @wc11 Can you recall what was in the box? All I recieved was the ducktail itself.

This video is quite helpful to remove the retractable spoiler. Depending on the internals of your spoiler, you could get away with just removing the top cover and leave all the OEM internals intact..

About to do this as well. Is this a two person job? Holding and aligning the new decklid to the 4 bolts.

not necessarily.... but it can help for the 3 seconds it takes to screw in a couple of small bolts. Once the bolts are on finger tight you can still move the deck lid into better positions. You may want to leave the metal catch off so you don't have to pop the deck lid open every time to adjust. Be careful with the front end of the duck tail that touches the upper third brake light area under rear glass. you do not want to pinch that area when lift up the lid. That goes for the Misha design as well. I also recommend widening the screw holes on the decklid hinges for the 4 screws that hold on the lid. I used a circular file and opened them up back towards the rear of the car as well as down just a bit. It will make more sense when you put on the decklid and see if you need more wiggle room.

One piece of advice is to remember that you can also adjust the tail lights as well by loosening the two adjustment screws and sliding themt in/out up/down a bit to line up and be more flush with the decklid . best of luck.. it will look awesome.

The FRP decklid is quite light, so you can easily hold it with one hand and hand-tighten one bolt on each side.
OEM decklid is heavier, but you can still hold it with one hand to install it back (after test-fitting etc).

When I initially test-fitted my RPG ducktail spoiler (full decklid), qikqbn's tips about filing the hinge were very useful.
None of the FRP parts line up perfectly, so you will always have to make tweaks.

It was a while ago but it did come with the grilles. Maybe they're not included now? Don't know.
They're actually the oem GT3 grilles. Part numbers on the bags.
You just epoxy them in after paint.
