Default 997.2 DFI sparkplug heat shields

Hi,

I'm doing the spark plugs and maybe the coils on my 2010 997.2 DFI 3.6. I've also got a full set of spark plug heats shields (these are in two parts per side) to do as the existing parts are very moth eaten.

I've got the bumper, exhaust and the upper heat shield off and need to get the lower heat shield off. But it looks like I need to drop the manifold/cat to get sufficient space to get one of the lower bolts out, I have unscrewed the bolt and it is hitting the cat before it is fully free, the shield is still held in place and has very little wriggle room.

Are there any tricks or do I really need to get the cats out of the way to replace the lower shield, part no is 9A110430904 for reference.

Thanks

John

Thanks for the link, as I had everything unscrewed and almost ready to go, I undid the E bolts on the manifold about halfway and that let me get the lower heatshield out of the way. Replacing plugs tomorrow and will try to replace the lower shield without taking the manifold off completely.

Thanks to all for creating these how to postings they are a great help.

You don't need to take the manifolds off for this job. It took me two attempts (gave up the first time) to get the heat shields on driver's side clear. I did remove the upstream O2 sensor, then fished the shield up and forward. You just have to be patient and fiddle with it some.
