Honestly, I think for the rack it's best to just get the OEM. It fits right, things lay straight on it, and it doesn't touch the paint. Made for the car.

In terms of bike holders, cargo boxes, etc... I think that is where you can go aftermarket.

I've taken my car in the winter with boxes for hour long drives (upstate about 4-6 hours) and have had bikes up there, and of course tied my Christmas tree to it. Porsche OEM one has been great.

Just picked up a 2010 C4S, meteor gray over black and looking to pickup a set of OEM rails for my Transition Sentinel. The true definition of a "sports car."

Why desecrate your 911 with a rack? Horses for courses.

Great bike carrying thread, love it. All factory here, question: do I need to be nervous if I bump it up to triple digits for brief spurts?

It depends on if you want getting the destination to be part of the experience or not. I have a Cayenne but if I have the choice of taking the GT3 for a weekend road trip, the GT3 is going to be part of the memories.

Agreed. We actually plan road trips specifically for the 911. Headed up to Niagara through Canada, the UP and Wisconsin early next month!

To solve this get on ebay and buy these bits used (you'll probably have to buy 2 sets of 4 feet, so as you only use 2 at the front and 2 at the back you end up with 2 sets of perfect 996/997 feet... Can sell them pretty easy). A quick search shows these are available via ebay.com
2 x Thule 753 feet
2 x Thule 751 XT feet
1 x Thule 3100 fitting fit (specifically for the 996/997)

Its also worth noting that the Porsche supplied roof boxes are also made by Thule and you can buy them unbranded for considerably less. The one they advise for the 996/997 is a porsche branded Thule Dynamic 330
You can then go for whichever bars you prefer. I used the Thule 'Wingbar Evo' which are an aero dynamic shape. Thule recommends 118cm bars, but I used 108 as I dont like overhang on the ends (and I cut 10cm off mine on the rear as that's narrower than the front).
They arent as nice as the specific Porsche bars, but they are a hella lot cheaper!

@Hertsdriver don't know if you are still around but thanks for the tip. I've got the mixed podium feet and 3100 fit kit you suggested installed on my 996. Perfect! I already had the 753s, aero bars and my bike rack, all I needed was the 751 feet for a level rack. Thanks again!

Can someone kindly do me a favor and take pictures of the front and rear mounting points below the removable covers? I have a 7.2 GT3 and they don't have them from the factory. Looking to weld them in so I can put a rack on the car. TIA

It does look like an OEM box, which was likely a Porsche-branded "Thule 612 Hyper XL" that's been discontinued.

Wilder - just my humble opinion, but it might not be the best idea to try and add those mounting points to your 7.2 GT3 but here’s some photos if you do want to try:

I'll save you the time and effort and happily trade you my Carrera for your GT3. It already has the roof rack mounting points. I'll even throw in my Thule box =)

Hey I know that your post is like 5 years old but it's excellent info.
Trouble is I can't find the 183100 fitting kit anywhere (found the feet you recommended no problem) so I wondered if you might know where to look (not at Thule, they're out)?
