@rodH Yes, I was referring to the plastic cap pictured. What metal plast are you talking about?

Wrt the inserts, Suncoast told me the same thing which seemed suspicous. I called another dealer and they were able to sell them individually.

Looks great!! I think I saw on the forum a harness that works to help with the programming? Did you happen to search for that?

Yes. A harness is required.

thats pretty funny, I keep hearing about how great suncoast is. That is the 2nd time I tried to use them and didn’t. I kept asking the guy on the phone, “porsche has to sell them, in case a car gets in an accident!” Oh well!

I wonder if that's what I'm missing. What harness are you referring to?

there is the wiring and a harness. Here is what they look like together. The diagram picture #10 is the part that we are talking about but without the wires. I think it is a $70-80 part. When I got my new airbag, it happened to come with it, but that is highly unusual.

Btw, what do you plan on doing with your old wheel? I’m contemplating selling mine, but not sure yet if it is worth enough to bother.

Seems like all that could've been avoided by buying an assembled steering wheel.

This is true, if you are always into the path of least resistance and possible "compromises" and are afraid of mechanical things or putting things together. Some of us love to work on our cars, and have other hobbies where we are required to perform a lot of mechanical work (or pay for it). For me it isn't a hassle, but sort of a hobby and then add to that, to get the EXACT custom set up I wanted (stitching, 12:00 marking, trim and insert colors and finishes), I could have probably paid $3,000 to do it or I could put the stuff together myself and done it like I did for around $1500, or I could have compromised what I wanted for around $1,000. But if we were so worried about it being a hassle and willing to compromise, why not just stay stock (cheaper and easier). For me, if I am going to "upgrade" a part, I want it EXACTLY the way I want it, sometimes this requires a little more effort, sometimes a little more money and sometimes both, but I don't see that as always being a bad thing. Working hard for what you really want is normal for me.

I'm in the same boat. I went from the 997.1 large round airbag wheel in my 2006 C2S (manual non-MF) to a 997.2 wheel with the smaller round airbag (also manual non-MF).

Wheel and airbag came as a package with all wires attached.

I took it to my indy who activated the multifunction option in the gateway with a Durametric but still no horn.

Not sure what my options are as I really like the newer style wheel but a horn is a useful tool when it's needed.

I'm going to hold onto it. It's not worth much and I'd rather have it on hand in the event I want to take it back to stock.

My wheel came with the harness as pictued (at least I recall it looking the same). I'm being told by another porschephile hat I might need a new steering wheel control module to make it work and it's expensive. That being the case, I may be without a function horn, which just means I'll need to yell louder.

@DocR Looks like we have similar tastes. I dropped a ducktail on my C4S as well. Love the retro profile it provides.

yours is plug and play as it was already a multifunction wheel (enabled)

the multifunction setting has to be enabled in the steering wheel module, NOT just in the gateway module. did you enabled it in the steering wheel module? it will work - the horn should work. also if you go the Multifunction wheel it will work as well since you already have the .2 steering wheel module. you just have to buy that paulLi adapter as well from china. it will plug and play assuming your horn is already working (multifunction enabled)

I had been told that all I'd need to do is update the software to tell the system that a multi-function wheel had been installed and it would work. More specifically, using PIWIS or a durametric, there is a MF steering wheel installed/not installed option under the gateway module and all I'd need to do is change it to installed. I was at the dealership this week and they took a look, reporting back that there wasn't an MF option that appeared under the gateway module for my car. Any steering wheel / software experts out there with ideas on where to look next?

Thanks for any help!

Also, you will need the GPS Adapter designed by Paul Li. The can buses are different between the 997/991/1 and 991.2 and later can bus. Found at www.gpsadapter.us
