Default New owner - 997 C4S

Hi all - new owner here - early manual Gen 2 997 C4S with 49,000 miles in midnight blue. First time 997 owner, and have come from a manual BMW M2 Competition which I only had for a year. I didn’t like the image of the BMW, and hankered after something that felt more special all the time. It’s only my 2nd day but loving it so far, and the old school feel with the steering wheel that feels like it’s dancing and fluttering. It feels slower than the M2, but some of that is that it’s normally aspirated of course. The brakes are far more progressive and less grabby than the M2. I’m paranoid about corrosion so I’ve booked it in to be Dinitrol treated.

A few questions - is 49,000 considered high?
Does anyone use theirs through winter with salt, mud and grime on the road? I have other cars but want to use the 911 as much as possible.

Nice car, congrats! 49,000 is not considered high. My 06 is 105k and I daily drive through rain and slush here in the Pacific northwest. Here's mine with winter setup - Pirelli PZero Sottozeros.

Sweet color. Love the rear wiper. 49k in any BMW is high but the 997.2 is much more durable. There are no time bombs waiting for you. Especially with a manual. You have to reprogram your brain for worry free driving (and sell the plate). That mileage means that it was regularly driven which is a good thing. I picked up mine with the express purpose of mountain driving in the snow. The only winter prep I did was some snow tires and a full front paint protection film. I also regularly wash off any salt/mag chloride and have my shop do a post winter inspection. I'm at 75k and I've only had to replace the front axle boots (one was torn) and a front brake cooling duct ($35).

I love the Midnight Blue. Congrats on the new car you got the perfect model for winter driving.

Congrats on a beautiful car.

I don’t think there should be that much difference inquick was. Forced induction cars hit harder in lower revs which does give the feeling of quicker accelkerTion over a more progressive linear acceleration NA curve of the same or similar quickness. I have an F80 Competition Package. It too feels quicker than my GTS, but it’s not really.

Congrats. I recently purchased an 09 C4S Manual with 65K Kms. Black on Black with sport chrono. I am BMW guy through and through and own quite a few, but the 911's are a special breed. Mine doesn't have a rear wiper and I am not planning on any winter driving with.
My brother recently traded in his M2 manual for a PDK Cayman GTS and loooves it.
The M2 was an incredible car IMO, but P cars are P cars...

Welcome to the 4S Club! Having also gotten a 49K mile C4S that spent some of it's life in Canada, it appears the only issue I have seen is the lower nuts and bolts on the mufflers and exhaust tips got quite corroded and took a lot of work to torch off. Also the windshield was pitted more than you might see in a non-snow climate, and I just replaced it. Other than that, winter seems to have had little impact on my car.

Love the blue color. Enjoy !

Sweet. Enjoy the new car. I love my M2, but I also don't think the 911 and M2 should be compared. They are different kinds of cars with a different purpose to me.

Very nice! My girlfriend bought a C4S Cab last spring and I did a bunch of work on it (engine mounts, rear struts, lower control arms) and this past weekend I got it out for a hard 30 minute drive. So much raw fun, wow. Very different than my 2017 C2S. She loves it and it seems to be holding value, we are both very pleased. Bought it with same mileage as yours, we knew she wouldn't be driving it but maybe 3 to 4k a year so mileage wasn't a concern. Heck I've had four Boxsters and my favorite had 105k on it. My Cayenne now has 126k on it, looks and drives great!

How are you feeling about the 911 now that you have had it for a good chunk of time? I am on the cusp of trading my 18' M2 for a 997.2 GTS with a manual transmission.

oh I love it. The 997 is such an event to drive -
so analogue, delicate and beautifully balanced. It gets more and more rewarding. I only use it for dry weather and fun stuff - I bought an X3 M competition for daily stuff. But any excuse, I’m in the 911. It feels special and exotic in a way that the M2 didn’t really, but I loved the M2 Comp all the same - particularly for its savage power. However, can’t recommend the change enough.
