I am really torn on the 991 versus the 997.2. I go back and forth on which I like better, but I have to say the 997.2 GTS is a special car, with that old school, l bad-boy feel/vibe to it that the 991 just doesn’t have. The 991 is sleek, modern and cool also. Coin toss unless you just prefer to drive newer for reliability or just to have the latest sand perhaps greatest, to some.

The performance nexus is pretty meaningless. Truth is, the performance and fun factor of even a base 997 is more than most can handle and more than enough for public streets.

Lol about 80 pounds! Does anyone really think they can feel that or it makes a difference on public steeets! The difference in feel between the cars has pretty much nothing to do with 80 pounds of weight difference.
All true yes. Some people just try a bit too hard to make any newer model the new "luxo barge" and its just not true. Has happened after every new generation

Lighter as in cigarette lighter?? Not sure what point you are/were trying to make. Sure you can add ceramic brakes, no Bose, back seat delete, etc to a 997 to make it a bit lighter but if you are comparing mostly equally specd cars than the 991 is lighter, period

For those that would argue this, I am talking about equivalent cars (same starting msrp and same current mileage, etc) and the last I saw the 997.2 2012s are more expensive when adjusting for msrp than 2012 991s... which is frankly shocking since we are only 1 full model out from the 991.1...

The rest is subjective...
Agree with you on this. That is for now at least. Who knows where the market will be next year. The pricing difference may just be that they are equally in demand but there are just much fewer 997.2's to choose from.

Well yeah, it specifically is something you can feel because a big chunk of that 80lbs is the elimination of hydraulic steering for electric. That was THE thing every early 991 review noted.

But I think after the run of 991, the reviews are in and it is judged a great car. I love my 997.2. And there are alot of things I would love in a 991.1 also and a few that would really bug me like the cover over the engine compartment.

The 991 with a 6sp manual are hard to find, I see them mostly with PDK which sucks because I'm a manual guy. The 991 doesn't have easy access to the engine which also sucks because I'm a DIY guy. While I think the 991 styling is nice, it has loss the old classic look particularly with the small rear lights, ditto with the 992. It just makes it too futuristic looking. Personally I love the looks of the old 60's & 70's 911 and when i see one that has been hotrodded to go fast and louder, it gets my adrenaline pumping! Just the simplicity and visceral driving experience makes it a really fun weekend car to cruise around town. I think people are going to feel the same about the 997 when it becomes a classic vintage. Will also be the more sought after and the higher price classic cars over the 991. I'm bringing a 997.2 6sp manual to a shop this weekend to do a PPI, if everything goes well, it should be in my garage by next week.

I drove a couple each of 997.2 and 991.1 relatively close to each other. I found I liked the 6 speed manual in the 997 more than the 7 speed manual in the 991. I liked the smaller interior of the 997 and the more visceral feel of it. That's why I chose the 997. The 997 was more fun for me and I don't care that it is a fraction of a second slower.

I wonder what the 991 group say about the 997.2.

I've driven pretty much every 991 variant from a base Carrera to a GT2 RS along with most of the 997 variants.

I'm not a fan of the 7 speed manual in the 991. That goes for both .1 and .2 versions. Maybe it's better with a Numeric shifter upgrade?

If I were to get a 991 C2S or GTS it would be PDK.

It seems the consensus is if you want a weekend car, get the 997.2, it's more analog, raw and engaging. If you want a daily driver go for the 991 it's more refine, smoother and comfortable. Ultimately what are you using the 911 for? Weekend toy for me.

Pretty sure they drive 991s because they like 991s. The same for 993s and 992s.

I totally get all 911's have their own merits and you get one that suits you best. What's refreshing is the 991 owners really like the 997.

Weekend toy for me too. If it was a daily, I’d def go for a 991 for its extra size, comfort and tech.

I think my screen name says enough about my opinion on the matter! *Even* Jeremy Clarkson was impressed by the 997.1 version of the “Beetle” when it 1st came out.

I will however add that I want a 991.2 GT3 with/without a wing very very badly! (this said based on being a recent passenger in a GT3 Touring).

Had a 2007 C4S CAB 6spd and got such crazy high trade in value I pulled the trigger on a 2015 GTS CAB w/ PDK.

The 997 felt like every edge of the car was within reach of my hand. And the 991 did not.

997 more visceral more road noise.

991 luxury refinment.

Missed my 997 so much I bought a 2012 997 GTS 6SPD. I think that car may be "The one" in collectibles based on what they are commanding
