I suspect it's not uncommon for a tech or someone taking a test drive to over rev...

Of the two 997s I got far enough into the purchase process to get a DME on, both had overrevs occurring in the most recent 30 minutes' operating hours. One case it was Range 0, by someone test driving the car before I bought it, and it was the only overrevs the car had. Range 0 so not terrible.

The other case was Range 3 overrevs, either by a tech, sales guy, or test driver at the dealer.
