Thanks but dont think so. Last week when it happened temps were around 10 (50F). Its happened in all kinds of temps (which we are lucky enough to get around Toronto)

Check your grounds. Modern cars are extremely sensitive to proper electronic current. If you have a faulty or inconsistent ground it can be messing with the ECU and numerous other sensors.
Inspect your ground connections, remove, clean the surfaces and reinstall with some di-electric

Just adding a data point to this thread. My alternator needed to be replaced a couple of weeks ago. I think it had been going for a while but it finally threw a warning light and the car lost power as it completely failed. With the new alternator the car fires up much more aggressively then it has in a while.

I have no idea if this will solve the surging issue (which has not come back since this thread date) but I suspected it could be an electrical issue so we'll see
