Default 997.1 A/C Blew Up

The other day I was driving my '06 S-cab and what sounded like a tea kettle went off and vapor (freon it turns out) started pouring from the vents. Opened the trunk and I could see fluid under the cover near the passenger (starboard side of the battery). Couldn't find anything in prior posts using search, so any help in determining what exactly happened and what I have to look forward to is appreciated. (Wishful) thoughts and prayers it's a connection also appreciated.

13 yr old car - old hoses and connections. Take it to an AC specialist and have them trace the leak and replace the hoses. Pretty straight forward problem and solution.

Same problem on '05 cab; leak test showed bad valve(they did not describe further). Replace valve and recharge freon $315!
