Saturday morning, after a morning rain, I slid my 2006 997.1 S sideways while making a left hand turn. I straightened the car out and noticed that my digital speedo display was flashing at me. This continued very briefly and then went back to a solid display. The display has continued to flash intermittently since then. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? I guess technically it's the onboard computer display that's flashing.

Reason: Additional information
What you describe (sliding in the rain or other slippery surface) would most certainly trigger the PSM function, which causes the PSM light to flash (number 20 in the below pic).. I'll bet that's what you saw..
Thanks for responding, but no it isn't the PSM warning light. It's the entire #20 screen that is intermittently flashing. It quit flashing and I hoped all was well. I thought I needed to do the battery cable fix flow slow/no start when warn, but my Indy shop advised me to get a new battery. I replaced the battery on July 3 and the flashing was back, full time. I put the trickle charger on the new battery and I haven't driven the car in 2 days, but will check it all tomorrow. Still not understanding why the screen would begin to flash, can't find anything here about others experiencing this.
The entire LCD blinking is not a normal function that the car supports, so I would say you have a cluster on the fritz. Especially if it's heat related; I had several pixels that were "dead" on my 997 that "healed" themselves after the weather changed from warm to cool.
You might be able to get it repaired at a place like Hollywood speedometer or similar.
Yep, I think the cluster is on it's way out. It could be heat related. Anyone have any suggestions on getting the cluster repaired as the LCD screen is the only issue.
Still working with this, anyone have ideas? What type of re=programing is needed if I purchase a used cluster?
Anything electronic that is replaced (PCM, CCU) will require a dealer trip to reprogram and remarry the unit to the car. I’m certain the cluster is the same drill.
Consider having your own unit repaired and save the dealer trip or buying someone else’s headache. There are DIY’s on line for removal. Looks straightforward.
My 997.2 CCU is on the way back from a shop in Massachusetts for a burned out backlight. I’m sure I remember seeing P instrument cluster repairs on their menu. BBA Remanufacturing in Taunton MA. They have a good reputation.
If you do pull the instrument cluster don’t turn the ignition on w the cluster out. You’ll throw codes requiring reset and maybe a dealer trip.
Thanks, I've decided to get this fixed. I've some others repaired themselves, but I prefer to send this one off. Pulling it out myself is no problem. I just wasn't sure if it was simple plug and play or if their was reprograming involved.
I tried to fix my cluster once and made it worse. I sent it off to BBA Reman and they fixed it for me. They were great to work with. Petza914 at the time had a spare cluster that he was selling for a very reasonable price. I have no idea if he still has it. I do not know if this applies to your situation.

If you pull the unit they’ll likely be a sticker with the Porsche assy number on it. You can call BBA in Massachusetts and ask them if it’s a unit they repair. I spoke to Sharon Corderia in their shop who was very helpful.
My CCU is expected back tomorrow Fedex.
They have a repair form on line to print out and fill in.
The speedo cluster repair gives more options of course. Hollywood Speedo has a good reputation.
I learned of BBA from my indy shop as there were no real options for a 997.2 CCU other than a factory new part. That part with the dealer install and programming would have been $1200. Crazy for a backlight out.
I’m pretty sure you won’t throw any codes with the cluster out as long as you leave the ignition key out.
AutoPartsRepair in Colorado does it for $400. I emailed BBA reman, inquiring as to whether they work on 997.1 instruments clusters and if so, how much they charge to replace the LCD screen.
