I have this original Porsche battery maintainer which I’ve used successfully with my Boxster for 17 yrs. Was hoping this would work with my 997 but the plug doesn’t push all the way in. Am I missing something? Is there an adapter or something I need to get for this to work? I like that you can just plug this into the cigarette lighter socket instead of having to connect direct with the battery. Any help appreciated.

Try removing the red plastic piece on the plug. With my CTEK plug it just slips right off and I suspect the P car adapter is the same. It should fit fine.

I have similar (looks identical, but different number) charger and it plugs right into the lighter receptacle on my 997.1 Targa 4. The pkug-in part looks identical too.... I'll go take a few pics....

Be careful with those as they have on occasion overcharged batteries... PAG long switched to Ctek.

EDIT: Doh...it works now. I just didn’t push it in forcefully enough. All good now.

Thanks guys. The plug looks the same. I’ll try removing the red part and see if that works. It seems like the plug is too long for the receiver and doesn’t push in to stay plugged in for some reason.

Thanks...I only have it on for a few hours. Don’t usually leave it plugged in overnight, and mostly only during the winter months when I can’t drive the car each week. Just wanted to make sure it still worked on the car.

I believe power to that receptacle in the center console is cut off by the car after 10 minutes or so and you're supposed to use a battery maintainer in the other passenger side footwell receptacle.

For what it’s worth, I used mine last nite after finding out it did work, and in that same location. When I went back to the car 2 hrs later, I saw that it was still charging the plug as the red light was still on at the outlet.

The charger was still on, but if the car cuts power to that outlet circut, no amperage will actually make it from the lighter socket to the battery to charge it. That might be why the light was still red after 2 hours unless the battery was pretty far discharged. Next time you drive the car and bring it back, do a similar test, but plug it in to the other footwell socket and check it again after 2 hours. See if the light is still red like it's charging or if it actually charged.

Maybe the console socket only shuts down after 10 minutes if the doors are locked and if left unlocked, will remain active. Were your doors locked or unlocked?

I left left the doors unlocked cause I figured that everything would shut down once it went to sleep mode. With my Boxster, same thing- after 2 hours, light would still be on. If I plug the outlet in, and don’t connect the plug to the lighter socket, the light is not red, so am thinking if it is red, it’s still charging? Who knows.

The console cigarette lighter plug is always on. It has been like that on 996/997/991. You are fine!

Cool. Of the 3 - under the armrest, the ash tray one, and the passenger footwell one, which are not always on?

According to the 997.2 Owners Manual they are all always on. (The cigarette lighter has a larger fuse thus its recommended use for the tire inflator).
